Is it possible to store all metadata in local files within the folder of the media files? e.g movies/movie.2001.720p.blabla/poster /info /actors The reason I ask is because it would be neat to be able to “sync” the metadata into the folders when the correct match is made, so I don’t need to worry about having wrong matches if I were to re-add the content later ---

I had the same question. I have to say that for the moment is not possible, all the metadata are in the same place. Different approach to the question: Can I put information in the folder to make sure it is matched correctly? e.g. IMDB link in .nfo file ---

So, only for artwork - not additional info like plot\synpsis and so on? ---

You have to add the metadata into the MP4 files. ---

1. If there is a `.nfo` file present, Plex will search for the IMDb ID in it and use it additionally as a clue to find the right match. (This applies to movies only, and only if you have a subfolder on disk for each movie) 2. If you install the [.nfo importer agents](https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/38402/metadata-agents-for-exported-xbmc-library/p1#top ".nfo importer agents"), you can use Kodi-compatible `.nfo` files to supply other metadata as well. 3. plex will read many metadata from the embedded data in a mp4 / m4v file. You need to have the Local Media Assets agent active for this to work. Side note: You can improve the chances of an impromptu correct match if you use the proper naming schema.
