I updated to the latest version of Plex for my QNAP NAS today (App Version 2.011), but now I am unable to delete media - despite having the checkbox ticked.
Any ideas what has caused this to stop working and how to resolve it?
Any help/advice appreciated.
PS, I am using the Plex App on my 2015 Samsung TV.
PMS runs as root (unrestricted access). Are you running with the Multimedia app enabled and accessing your media through it?
If so, that’s why. It is an application interface. PMS is intended to access your media directly (e.g. /share/movies and not through /share/MultiMedia (where the application presents itself) .
If you are using MultiMedia, I strongly suggest you transition over to using the shares directly.
You accomplish this by
- Adding the real share names to the list of folders to scan.
- PMS will show you now have duplicated (expected and normal).
- After all items in that library section show with duplicates, Edit the library again and remove the reference to
/share/MultiMedia.
- It will rescan one last time. You will see the duplicate markers removed as it does

Hi Chuck,
I have been running Plex for a few years now and never had an issue with deleting media…until today, when I upgraded the Plex Server on my NAS.
Kind Regards

I’m going to need your log files (captured right after you try to delete something) and information from you what PMS should be deleting so I can correlate in the logs. I will need the path to the media (e.g /share/sharename/dir/file etc)
Hi Chuck,
Many thanks for you response.
How do I get my logs?
Kind Regards
The easiest way is from PMS itself.
- delete the media
- wait a few seconds
- Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs
- Attach the ZIP file it presents you
Hello Chuck,
I am having the same issue as well. I noticed this last tonight after i updated the software to the latest version. I am running unraid using a plex docker. No settings have been modified on the server in the last month.
I tried changing permissions and also removing the docker and reinstalling it to no avail. I can send my log files as well. Let me know
Docker adds a layer. Does the docker container have write permission to the actual filesystem underneath?
Does the username the container is running as have write permission to the data?
If PMS has it enabled but the OS or container don’t allow it, nothing will be allowed.
The logs will indicate “Permission Denied” if this is true.
the data folder has read/write access. If i delete/rename the file manually outside of plex. plex will remove/rename the file within seconds of the file change. If i try making the change through the desktop webui i will receive an unable to delete error.
I checked the logs i don’t see a permission denied message when i searched through them.
Question. Do you realize you posted in QNAP ? I am re-reading and see you’re using unraid. I don’t know about unraid at all. I know minimal of docker and, as stated, the docker container must pass through the permissions.
If you see this the the problem lies in unraid. For that, I do suggest you continue further there.
ahh im sorry i just went by the subject. my fault ill post in the correct thread
Hi Chuck,
I have downloaded the logs and have tried to view them in Notepad++, but I don’t know where to look for a resolution.
There are 65 individual logs in the zip file, so don’t know where to begin looking.
Kind Regards
It’s complicated to try and teach via forum. It takes any of us a while to actually understand the intricacies of PMS. It’s probably best if you attach the ZIP here. If uncomfortable with that, feel free to PM to me with a link back to this thread.
I will respond here in-thread.
Hi Chuck,
Thanks again for you assistance.
Zip file attached.
Kind Regards

While i’m going through them, please disable VERBOSE logging, leaving only DEBUG enabled until requested by one of us. VERBOSE loses so much valuable data due to the limit of 5 log files.
I just finished going through them. If there was a recorded error, it’s been flushed out.
The streaming to PHT saw to that.
Please quiesce the server if possible to help keep locality of reference between your delete action and the error coming into the log + it not being flushed off the end?
Did you have a look at this:

Orca explains this problem with pre 2015 Samsungs.
Yes, unfortunately I have a 2015 model.
How do I disable Verbose logging?
