Server Version#: every macOS and Windows version from 09/2018 to 1.13.8.5395
Player Version#: no idea, never used it.
I built a new Plex server and moved all the data over (following this guide)
I moved from macOS High Sierra to Win 10 Pro, so I knew i would lose some data (such as friends and who has access to my server. Fine).
I migrated over and started re-inviting people. Many accepted without issue, but all of my users who access it only through the Plex iOS app have issues to this day (about 90 days since i migrated).
Sometimes it’ll show my server (perhaps my old one), but all content is unavailable.
They accept the invite, but when they go their Plex app, it shows my server is unavailable (which it isn’t, I’ve tested it while trying to get these folks in) OR it acts like they never accepted the invite. I
i have also tried deleting them from my list and re-adding them with a fresh invite.
I’ve tried to have them accept from a computer on plex.tv
I’ve tried uninstalling the Plex iOS app and clearing all caches, nothing.
This affects 3-5 iOS-only Plex users and it’s been stumping me for a while. I don’t even know how to effectively search for it.
Last weekend I installed a new Plex Server on Windows. My current Plex server was on MacOS. I disabled remote Access on the Windows Plex and was able to access both at the same time. I had no problems with Friends needing to be re-invited - I could set permissions for both Plex servers when they launched their Plex apps. When I had all of my movies moved from Mac to Windows, I deleted the Plex Mac install. I then changed my firewall rules to point to the IP of the Windows Plex instead of the Mac, then enabled Remote Access on the Plex Windows. I did lose my Playlists and I lost everyone’s watch history. Just like you - once the Mac Plex Server was down, iOS versions of the Plex app refused to let go of the Mac Server and kept trying to load this library as the default and it would return that all of my movies were offline. I tested this on iOS 12.1 and could never get the Plex app on iOS to understand that the new Windows Plex was supposed to be the primary. I deleted the Plex app on the iOS devices, rebooted the devices, then reinstalled Plex App on the devices and I have not had a problem since. Oddly, the tvOS versions for the Apple TV handled this change over with no problems whatsoever. I will say that I was seeing the same behavior you are describing with iOS app until I rebooted the iOS device in between the uninstall and reinstall of the iOS Plex app.
Interesting. I followed the exact same steps you did, I believe. Minus the rebooting of the device. I will give that a shot! If you remember any other tips or tricks to get it working, I’d love to hear them.
Yeah, none of this worked. Very excited to know I paid nearly $200 for a Plex Pass to not have ANY ability to communicate with support. They just let the users fend for themselves.
Still have users who can’t access Plex on their iOS devices.
