Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

^^ Excellent

It’s cleaned up now from having used 1.21.0.3744.

If I may ask? How are the French GUI menus in the Package Installer? Are they acceptable grammer & spelling?

Synology RAM1600DDR3L-8GBX2

Better !!!

I did not realize Synology finally offered 16GB kits

I looked for the compatible modules on the synology site then at my supplier so I will put these two modules and resell the two 4gb

When you change the RAM, Take your time and be gentle,

There are a few videos on Youtube how to do this easily.

The most important part is to not break the retaining clips.

Thank you very much for your very valuable advice

@ChuckPa
I guess something is not as it should be after the migration.
I get frequent timeouts when loading media item like tracks or artists and the Plex Web states that the connection to my Synology is not secure. Pressing F5 resolves the problem for a while but it might reappear if I browse e.g. my music library again.

When using the plex App I also have the problem that the media folders on my Synology are available only after more than 60 seconds. This is different than before.

Maybe itā€˜s not completely broken.
I tried to reconnect in the Plex App and it tells me that my Synology is not connected.

Let me see the logs please (after you make it misbehave)

Pressing F5 resolves the problem for a while but it might reappear

Sounds like what FireFox does

Iā€˜m using Safari on IOS as before.
Where can I find the logs and which ones do you need?

Update: Disabled remote access and now itā€˜s way better

Remote access tends to force transcoding more often.

Double check your HW transcoding (as well as all your other preferences) are ok?

I’d like to see the server logs.

  1. Start the playback (forces the decisions)
  2. Stop before it fails

It wasnā€˜t the playback that didnā€˜t work but loading the content of a media library like photos or music. It simply failed after a while. Also connecting to the Synology device from Plex Web or App took a very long time.

Now that I disabled remote access itā€˜s ok. Will leave it like this and monitor closely.

When the migration runs, it doesn’t do anything to the database.

As you see in the migration log, it only checks the metadata for symlinks which point out into la-la land and fixes them.

There have been reports of DSM 7 being ā€œheavierā€ than DSM 6.

The same binary application code is used on 6 and 7. The only thing which gets changed is how the SPK is put together.

Using the LAN IP resolved the problem. Once that was done, everything worked perfectly after that. Thank you for the help- I would have never figured this out on my own.

Sorry if my post diverts the last topic.

Hi Folks,

It’s been some time since I posted which means my Plex has been stable on DSM6 for a long time

Today I followed the upgrade process from ChuckPa in detail but still ran into some problems.

I have a DS1019+ with DX517 Expander with 30TB of drives. I deleted Plex before the upgrade to DSM 7 and after rebooting to DSM 7.01 I went to install Plex but I didn’t get the pop up message about sharing, it just installed like a normal Plex package (I used version 1.25.3.5385-f05b712b6-x86_64-DSM7). After the installation I thought thats a bit odd but I went ahead anyway and followed the remainder of the instructions concerning the sharing permissions between PlexMediaShare and Plex (my Plex naming is correct).

When I launched Plex it didn’t pull up my original Plex watchlist etc and looked like a new install. After some reading I concluded that my Plex database had not migrated so I went and followed some further instructions from ChuckPa about reinstalling Plex and there it went a bit wrong.

So I erased the installation of Plex and started to install a new copy. After about 15 minutes I got a pop up message saying something went wrong and I needed to re login to DSM. However Plex was still showing ā€œinstallingā€ in Package Centre but Resource Monitor did not show any PlexMediaServer activity. I left it for an a hour or so but no joy. The installation pop up remained on the screen and when I pressed ā€œnextā€ I got a message that another package was already in the process of installation (presumably Plex). Only after rebooting the NAS could I clear the file stuck in package Centre and start the install process all over again, however I always got the same result.

There are no migration logs in the PlexMediaServer to Plex directories so I cant post any supporting files.
A long winded post and apologies if I’m barking up the wrong tree but would appreciate some advice.
Thanks

@pioneer123
Be patient. Had the same issue (see above) and after about an hour I saw the migration log. In total it took about 5 hours.

Not sure though if rebooting your NAS has a side effect.

@tisler
Thanks, the reason I became suspicious is that in the resource manager PlexMediaServer was not doing anything for an hour or so. Thats why I rebooted and deleted Plex. Right now I’m back to a clean drive with no new Plex installation, so need some advice on where to go next.

Follow the advise from @ChuckPa where he helped me with my issue.

  1. Check if the old installation is still there

This is DSM complaining about security timeout. IT IS HARMLESS AND A BUG
Plex is (WAS) still installing until the NAS was rebooted

Does Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server still exist and does it contain all its files?

If uncertain if everything is there, is there a backup which can be used ?

thanks @ChuckPa

Ahhhh ok, but as Resource Manage was not showing any Plex activity I (wrongly) assumed it had gone wrong.

Yes I still have existing Plex Media Server structure is still there with all the files intact.

Here we go :smiling_imp:

  1. Uninstall the package
  2. Delete shared folder PlexMediaServer (don’t delete Plex by accident)
  3. Since DSM is giving you grief about security (the ā€œoperation failedā€)…
    – Control Panel → Security → General → Logout timer → 65535
    – Save
    – Sign out of DSM
    – Sign back into DSM
  4. Now install Plex
  5. As it’s installing ( in a separate window signed into DSM )–
    – Resource Monitor → Task Manager / Processes → You will see ā€œPlexMedia+ā€ running… It’s doing a lot of quick tasks so expect it to be constantly changing.
  6. Be patient and let it run.
