Synology: DSM 7 Installation Archive -- Archived from main thread

PERFECT, on BOTH!!

  1. Package Center → Plex (1.21.0.3744 – which is the no-longer-working-beta)
    – Uninstall it with the ERASE option (from the menu it gives you).

  2. Now, this next step will take some time … Let it.
It’s important to get it done right.

In this post, Just below “Scenario 2” , At step 3, start doing what it shows you.
Be very careful not to miss any of the permission setttings or checkboxes.
When you get to the point of “Save” , followed by “OK”, it might take time to complete that step. — Perfectly normal and expected.

Let me know when you’ve down to here and complete.

Before I do all of that is this the correct option?

Yes. Correct. Uninstall 1.21.0.3744 and the empty server instance it created.

We don’t want it to interfere with moving all your DSM 6 server data to DSM 7

OK dumb question. Where do I get the proper install package since I had the incorrect one to begin with?

There is a problem with PMS 1.30.0 and 1.30.1 (beta)

I’m giving you my copy of 1.29.2 .

Normally, you will get all downloads from
https://plex.tv/downloads

You’ll want the “Synology (DSM 7)” packages
Then choose the Intel 64 bit.

BE ADVISED

When you install this.

  1. If it doesn’t complain (it shouldn’t if you got all the permissions right)

  2. It will silently sit there, possibly feeling like FOREVER, at “Installing”.

  3. Don’t interrupt it . Don’t migrate away from the page

Open a new browser tab to the Syno and look in the “Plex” shared folder.
You’ll see a “Migration.log” file.

This file keeps track of the progress as the installer does everything it needs to move your server from DSM 6 → DSM 7.

Yes, Manual Install.

When it’s done,

  1. There will be no “Library” directory in the “Plex” share. You can use or delete as you deem appropriate

  2. User “Plex” won’t be needed

  3. You’ll have a new “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.
NO MEDIA IN THERE PLEASE… It’s fragile

  4. You’ll need to change permissions on your shared folders to access the media.
    I’ll post that link next.

Thank you. Manual install I assume. Also, when I do this will I start from scenario 2? I did that whole check box on permissions thing before I uninstalled…so I should be able to do it again.

Thank you for being patient.

You want me to start at scenario 2, step 3 before I install? Did I read that right?

Yes, I do please.

By setting the permissions for the “Plex” shared folder now, you will have a less confusing  experience . lol

To set your media shared folders for PlexMediaServer (the new package name and user name)

OK, confused. I have checked all the boxes and saved in the “scenario 2, step 3” as instructed. I have not yet installed fromm the link you provided. Do I now do the steps from “Synology FAQ-DSM 7” or do I do that after I install?

I apologize.

The steps are:

  1. Set the permissions in the “Plex” shared folder so the PMS application and its metadata get migrated to the new structures for DSM 7
    – (this is the pain. They made us change the shared folder and username – AND – took away all the privileges I used to have in DSM 6. Had this been DSM 6, I’d do everything for you automatically)

  2. After all the permissions are set, Now “Manual Install” the 1.29.2 SPK file I gave you.
    – This is where you can expect it to sit at “Installing” while it takes everything from the “Plex” shared folder and moves it to its new home in “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.

  3. Now go to each of your media shared folders and change “Plex” → “PlexMediaServer”

Thank you. Hopefully I do this right. Fingers crossed.

IF you want to be cautious

There is a checkbox to “Start after installation”:

UNCHECK the box. We can fix anything by hand if we need to

HA…too late but I must have done something right. So now I follow those steps…which appear to be the same as you sent me?

That is good…

Now move on to your media.

This is what is there now.

PERFECT.

Notice – I only removed what I knew was mine (the app) to move.

Everything else in the “Plex” share was kept sacred.

ps: Need to step AFK for a few. will be back within the hour

I just checked by using my plex app on my Macbook and I seem to have access to everything. I have 2 other people that access my server remotely. I suppose they still will be able to since I just did it remotely with a laptop?

And thank you! You were very kind to help.

Any idea of when there will be DSM7 binary of 1.30.0.6486 or 1.30.1.6497?
