# Synology Plex but transcoding on PC

Hi,
I have a plex server on Synology, originally I was doing transcoding on the Synology too. But for some 4k and large 1080p movies, when played on TV using Apple TV, I got a message that it is too slow and the video will not be good. Then I started optimizing the videos before watching them. But it takes a very long time to optimize the video on Synology. Hence I installed the plex media server on my PC and then pointed the movies library from my Synology server. Then I tried optimizing some of the movies, now it’s much faster than Synology.
I have a few questions. If I optimize using a plex media server installed on my PC but play the video from Synology plex media server, will it automatically pick the optimized version which I created on the windows PC? What is the best way to handle this?

If the Windows server is writing the optimized version back to the NAS storage, the Plex server on the NAS should be able to discover them. (After a regular library scan.)
However, they won’t appear as “optimized versions” but rather as regular “duplicates”.
