# Transcode high cpu when direct streaming

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8796  
Player Version#: 1.98.1.203-b72a7bf2 (Plex for Windows)

Why does the server sometimes use so much cpu when direct streaming? Surely it’s just trivially demuxing?

And then 10 minutes later, after a channel change, it’s fine again:
