I would like to be able to configure profiles for transcoding.
For Example Android Profile.

- Maximum Resolution 720
- Bandwidth 2 mbps

My problem is that I have two children using tables that do not support video and then plex transcode.
My NAS CPU is not powerful enough.

If I’m connected remotely (outside) I can set the maximum resolution and bandwidth.

In a nutshell, I would like to have the same remote settings even in the local area.

You can copy the Android profile to the `Profiles` user folder (side by side with the `Logs` folder) and modify it. If you are not familiar with changing profiles you may take a look at [https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/73702/writing-profiles-for-dlna-devices/p1](https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/73702/writing-profiles-for-dlna-devices/p1)

Thanks.

I have already updated the Android.xml profile but from tables they can still change resolution.

It’s not recommended to modify profiles in `plexmediaserver/Resources/Profiles`. PMS will replace your changes with the default profile. You need to create a new folder (I have a QNAP but probably other Linux versions have the same path, if in doubt you can check the path for `Logs`, should be the same for `Profies`) located in `plexmediaserver/Library/Plex Media Server/Profiles` and copy your customized profiled to this new folder.

In case you have an Intel 64-bit NAS the newly released HW-transcoding can offload the CPU significantly. If you have an Intel 32-bit you can rely on the option to “optimize” your media (some ARMv7 and ARMv9 can do it as well).

If your Plex clients can be parametrized for lower bitrates than this may be your best option. If the kids change it they will suffer (stutering and the like), so they will learn to not do it.

Are those profiles only used for DLNA? Or is there any way to tell Plex what to do e.g. when I optimize something for TV?

Profiles are used for DLNA clients and for Plex clients. They are not used for optimizing.
