Player Version#: n/a

I have been using MediaMonkey to manage my library (stored on a Buffalo Linkstation NAS) for over 4 years. I recently purchased a Synology DS218+ NAS server and am looking to “modernize” my library with Plex to share my extensive personal library to my Roku TVs and multiple Android devices.

My library consists of over 10,000 songs and around 100 movies that I have organized, rated, tagged, added to playlists and otherwise spent hours upon hours over the last few years updating metadata - which I would like to keep.

I like Plex and would prefer to move to it, but not in lieu of losing all of the metadata I’ve spent years working on. Is there a way I can at least get the following information out of my MM library and into Plex?

- All Playlists (currently all M3U)
- Music/Movie Rating (embedded in file tag)
- Genre (embedded in file tag)
- Grouping (embedded in the Group Description field in file tag)
- Play counts (just a bonus, really only in my MM library)

Hope there is a solution here. I’d be open to any plug-ins, third party software or scripts that could do the job.

Ok. Absolutley ZERO replies. Guess I won’t be using Plex for my library then.

I believe you are making a good decision. Plex (also Emby for that matter) is very limited in its ability to import anything from anything else. I use Plex and Emby for video but I use MediaMonkey for everything audio.

My MediaMonkey is on its own low powered computer and its sound is piped to the whole house. (to a series of small amps connected to speakers in each room) I also use my Echo devices (using AssistantComputerControl with IFTTT) to start and stop playback as well as various remotes scattered throughout the house. All I have to say is Alexia or Echo “trigger playback” and the playback of whatever audio I have set up starts or stops.

Since I have figured out how to do that I have had no desire to move my audio to Plex or Emby. There is a little expense involved getting started but I have found it well worth the money and the effort.

I never have liked the idea of needing to be in the area of my TV in order to listen to audio. This way I can be anywhere and still listen to my music and audiobooks.

The only drawback I have found is that the computer I chose does not have Bluetooth so I have not been able to use my Echo devices as speakers for MediaMonkey. But I am good at running wires so it is still pretty good.

So I believe you are better off keeping your audio in MediaMonkey.

I have used Mediamonkey for a massive library of music in order to tag and curate and create custom playlists for many years. Bought the Lifetime Gold long ago. But I went Linux desktop and nuked Windows. Clementine is an OK player, but not a tagger/manager. iTunes surely has never been an adequate answer. Ultimately, I had to install Virtual Machine with a shared folder to go back to processing, tagging, renaming and sorting my files with MediaMonkey.

Meanwhile, I bought Plex Pass over a year ago to stream my movies and music around the house and to devices. That has NOT worked out very well. And I have NOT found ways to cleanly import Playlists or even accurately preserve my tagging and sorting when viewed within Plex. Just letting you know. I’m not sure there is a good answer that doesn’t involve Pay streaming services and soundiiz - but even then, all my work with Mediazmonkey …

So sorry. But I think I agree with your decision.
