Hi, basically im adding the TV show Octonauts to my plex library.
All files are neat: Tv Shows/Octonauts/Season 3/Octonauts S01E01 etc etc.
The issue is this, Season 1, 3 and 4, all bundle up together on plex correctly.
Season 2 however stays separate, Plex renames the bundle “Octonauts: Series 2” instead of just Octonauts which would link towards the other seasons.
I have removed the files from plex library files several times, cleaned and optimised my library and readded for it to happen again. My agents are correct and I’ve ensured the TVDB is on the top of the agent list which made me think its on TVDB end. I checked here tvdb.com which looks ok from what I can see.
New TV shows metadata add fine, and other Octonaut episodes from any other series other than 2, add fine too. File permissions are all the same, so I’m out of ideas and turning to anyone here for some help please as my OCD is tearing me apart when I see it on my Plex library!
Do check if your files are in mp4/m4v format.
If they are, they could contain internal metadata which can potentially throw off Plex’s scanners.
To avoid such troubles, go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows -TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack active agents.
After doing this, perform the Plex Dance with the whole show.
Hi thanks for the reply, they are all mp4 format. All internal metadata are wiped via this method and in the agents list, the ‘Local Media Assets’ is at the very bottom, also I have this unticked (have also tried it at bottom and ticked too).
The Plex Dance thing I had followed before and tried once more before this reply, still to no avail.
There is no where what so ever to suggest Plex should be naming this particular season as “Octonauts Series 2” and by doing so, making Plex put it as a whole new show altogether. I’ve removed all 4 seasons and tried adding them in alternative times, and the end result is always the same even though the entire file and name structure is identical.
I have even renamed the files in as many variations as I can possible think of by following everything said here. I’ve hit a brick wall now with this
Do you have another copy of the files for this show?
And are these also added to a Plex library?
It may be time for log files:
While performing the following, please do nothing else with your plex system like watching, browsing etc.
Remove the season 2 of the ‘Octonauts’ and perform the Plex Dance until step 4
after that
-
activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
- quit Plex Server
- wait 1 minute
- empty the log folder
- start Plex Server
- wait 2 minutes
- copy season 2 back and update the tv shows library, note down the exact clocktime when you pressed ‘Update’
- wait 5 minutes
- shut down Plex server
- wait 1 minute
- zip up the whole log folder and attach it here
Hi, I didn’t want to come across as rude, just had a very busy month with no spare time. I’ve had a re-look at it all last night and plex began to do the same with Postman Pat and Twirlywoos episodes/seasons (getting a collection for my son lol). All episodes names and file structures perfect. Anyway, long story short, I manually matched the media and it immediately found the right source on tvdb.com, so I’m clueless why it didn’t do this in the first place.
I guess I didn’t find what was causing it but my issue is resolved now regardless. Thanks very much for your help.
