TV Shows Library - need to rebuild

Server Version#:4.159
Player Version#:

I managed to mess up my TV Shows category and believe I need to delete the indexes and start over with that category. Running on an unraid server, and it is an old installation that has been running fine through multiple updates. But I had some files that had glitches and when I tried to replace them things went south, and when I tried to fix that they went further south.

It is an older installation so it appears that the directory names do not match the current help files. Where I thought the help info told me to go, I found directories with numbers 0-9 and then small letters. I think I need to delete those?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I’m not sure what exactly the issue is but can you just delete the TV library and create a new one? Sounds like you might be trying to delete metadata bundles when you mentioned the numbered directories but not sure what instructions you are following.

Have you tried to restore a database backup?

I am not sure how it all went bad either. At first I had deleted and replaced files and Plex could not find them. I moved them out, scanned and then moved them back in, still not found. Then I renamed the show directory, scanned, but that just broke more connections. My DVR is also not working (uses the TV shows directory). So if I delete the TV library, can I leave the files and directory structure alone?
Right now I am down because the latest Nvidia driver update in Unraid broke the Plex docker, so it will not even start now. Hoping I can downgrade to the last one, which worked for me.

thanks for your help!

It should not affect the media files at all if that is what you mean.

For Live TV often EPG metadata does not match online metadata. With live TV when recordings are saved it uses the metadata directly from the EPG rather than online sources. So when those are scanned in again for a new library it will use metadata from online sources which may be different than the EPG had. It should still save new recordings in the same directory though.

Since you’re going to be recreating your TV shows library anyway, I would suggest taking this opportunity to separate your regular TV and DVR TV into two libraries. That is, have two separate TV shows-type libraries.

This offers some advantages. For example, if you use commercial skipping you can configure your DVR library to perform ad detection on all files instead of recorded ones only. This is useful if you need to Plex Dance a show for any reason; it will get ad detection performed again (which won’t happen if the library is set to perform detection for only recorded items).

I seem to be unable to delete TV Shows. As soon as I delete it, it reappears and the files are not playable. The other Libraries work fine.
Seems to be an UNRAID thing maybe?
Will research and try alternate methods tomorrow…

Thanks again for your help, and I will take your advice and create another DVR library..

Sounds a lot like a damaged database file.
