UK Channel Issues - 19 DAVE / 25 YESTDAY and other EPG issues

Interesting. I was using Get-iPlayer long before I had even heard of Plex. I still prioritise it over Plex for recording BBCi and ITV (to the point that I don’t map BBC or ITV in Plex). For me, the minor time to copy the file afterwards is worth for the higher resolution recording (for BBC) and advert free (for ITV).

Thank you for all the feedback. I will go through it all. Please make sure you do also use the form as that ensures the issues are captured there as well if I miss them Help Improve Plex DVR by Reporting Lineup Inaccuracies

Any update on the regional channels, this has been mentioned plenty of times and forms filled out

BBC1 has the correct regional names, but just has listings for BBC 1 London
ITV has no regionality it is just ITV Network showing London listings

@paulsalter It’s been going on for 2 weeks, and we were told by @sa2000 that the Paramount Network EPG listings would’ve been fixed within 3 days, that’s now almost a week ago, and we’re still no further along, I’ll be giving Tvheadend and Antennas a try once the next 24 hours, and let it populate that way, at least this way I get the description and the proper region’s as I have my doubts it’ll be sorted., Unless @cire12 can give us all more details as the page for reporting the channels doesn’t seem to be doing any good at all, things seem to be moving more when we mention it on the forums, and as for tweeting Plex, that’s a no go, they will just point is back to the forums… Shane really but, it’s what we have to put up with!
Onward and upward is the only way…

Dave

Be interested to hear how you get on with that

I am getting a bit peed off with Plex over this, they removed a decent service which was mostly working well and had accurate data, with something that is mostly not fit for purpose, then they actually expect the users to tell them what is wrong

Plex need to do some research into the markets they are providing services for and start fixing things themselves instead of pushing the fault finding to users

/rant over

@paulsalter I know that feeling, I’m about to start packing to move property with my girlfriend and 6 month old daughter, and doing fault finding at the same time is near on impossible. I’m just hoping that Tvheadend and antennas after I’ve set them both up allow streaming as antennas allows Plex to see the TV devices installed as a Hdhomerun device with multiple tuners. In my case 7 tuners with the idea of adding 2 more later this year, as long as the EPG data works on either side that is…

Dave

OK, just noticed that the odd show is completely incorrect in additional to the rest being 1 hour out…

Can you give us an update now?

@sa2000 We definitely need answers as I fear that the army of Plex users gathering place as we speak just coming over the horizon like the 300, and you won’t be able to keep them out of the castle walls for long Captain… Sorry playing to much Assassin’s Creed!! But we definitely need a more rock solid answer

Yep, but that’s Plex all over.

It took them over a year to fix the myriad problems with the AAC_LATM audio codec used for UK HD broadcasts in Plex player apps. There’s also still a fundamental incompatibility between transcoding and BBC HD recordings (due to the codec switch at programme boundaries).

What’s even more annoying is that Plex have UK staff - they just clearly have no comprehensive QA test plan for UK issues.

It’s things like this that make me very happy I never went for the lifetime Plex Pass - and that make me certain I never will. They simply can’t be trusted to continue to provide a worthwhile service.

It’s a very strange way of doing things

If a Plex employee had setup the DVR then a quick glance at it would show there are issues

Like you i am not a lifetime, I use/pay for when it fits my needs, currently i am not seeing any benefit of plex pass as DVR was my main reason for it

You are right about can’t be trusted, we seem to constantly go in a circle
New features are released
Features have bugs and feedback is asked for
Feedback is given and small issues get fixed
Lots of bugs remain and Plex go silent on the issue hoping people forget
Plex release next ‘new’ feature and repeat

Can you at least give us an update now?

  • Are all the problems listed above by everyone at least acknowledged by the provider?
  • Can we have a consolidated list of all the known problems and their fix status?
  • Why can’t the provider refresh their feeds immediately when a problem has been fixed so we don’t lose an additional 4 days (and counting) worth of programming?
  • So, what happened to the “3 days” for Paramount" to propagate? …where has that gone wrong?

It’s been scarily quiet recently.

thanks,
J.

I got “lifetime” 2 years ago now - seemed a good idea at the time and did not realise that Plex prioritised new features over reliability.

Lesson learned.

@sa2000 The silence is deafening.

I am sorry that all I can say at the moment is that issues are being processed, submitted forms are looked into and EPG issues in the lineup data are being referred.

The Paramount issue appears to be a new problem or an issue with the way it was fixed in the first place

@sa2000 Awaiting the fallout, I’m hiding in my shelter with tin hat and food to last a couple of weeks, rations may be in order for complaints to go around… @JCHH is first in line, then @paulsalter and then free for all
How can the Paramount Network EPG issue be a new one when it was supposed to have been fixed a week ago? It’s beyond comprehension, is @cire12 around to give us more details?

Dave

@sa2000 “what he said”.

And also:

  1. How was Paramount (and I guess, all channels) not checked after the alleged fix was put in place?
  2. Why does it take 3-4 days for the fix to propagate thorough?
  3. So what is the situation with Paramount now? …are we a permanent 3 days away?
  4. Can Plex not provide the status of all the reported channels, so we can at least understand progress including (but not limited to):
019 Dave 1 hour out and sometimes wrong programmes
    033 ITV1+1 “To be announced”
    042 Home “Home (Freeview) Programming”
    054 Paramount “Radio Programming”
065 TBN Europe “TBN Europe Programming”
079 Dave Ja Vu (as per Dave)
091 PBS America “To Be Announced”
    093 TravelXP “To Be Announced”
096 Forces TV “Forces TV Programming”
    099 Smithsonian Channel “Radio Programming”
    104 Channel 4 HD no series/episode info
105 Channel 5HD sometimes wrong programmes, suspect wrong region
    700 BBC Radio1 “Radio Programming”
701 BBC Radio1 Extra “Radio Programming”
    702 BBC Radio2 “Radio Programming”
    704 BBC Radio4 “Radio Programming”
    705 Radio5 Live “Radio Programming”
707 BBC Radio6 Music “Radio Programming”
    Ditto 712 through to 717
    Ditto 723 to 727 and 732

The complete lack of transparency of the problem status only adds frustration to the problem.

[questions edited for clarity]

No, I’m not first in line; all our respective issues are equally important

My problem is the epg has not worked from the the 1st july update, well odd channels get updates.

I got a lifetime pass but regret it now.
My solution untill plex extract a didget or two is. Record programs with mediportal the have to transcode them to mp4 so plex can read them, it doesnt read the .ts file off mediaportal, then copy them over to my plex server. Then sort them into the right folder. And i thought plex would be progress and simple. Might look at emby.
Dave

@access_uwclub_net Yup, I purchased the Lifetime pass just after my now almost 7 month old Daughter was born in December as a present to all my family to enjoy Plex, after paying monthly for it for almost 18 months, and after helping sort the last issue out in December with others too.
There are other ways to grab the EPG data etc, and cost less money than shelling out for a Lifetime pass on Emby. In between packing for our house move in August, I’ve already installed TVHeadend and Antennas on my Ubuntu/HTPC server and over the next few days I’ll be giving this a whirl, hopefully it’ll work first time? I know when I did do a test run with it, it picked all the channels without an issue and all the descriptions from OTA too. I was leaving this as a last resort, and now seems to be the time to run it and get the most from Plex again.

Which OS do you use? I’ll post my findings here in due course with hope that Plex will fix the issue for others that aren’t offey with setting up EPG grabbers etc on their local servers.
