Unable to start Plex on a Synology after making Permission changes

Version 1.16.5.1592 on a Synology NAS

I get the error “Failed to run the Package service” when I try to start Plex.

I suspect I have messed up permissions since that was the last thing I touched.

Prior to this all was fine.

What is the best way to go about resetting my user and group permissions?

Thanks.

If Plex fails to start:

  1. Control Panel
  2. Shared Folders
  3. Highlight and then EDIT the Plex share
  4. Permissions tab
  5. Give user Plex Read/Write permission to the share.

If you did other permissions changes in File Station, you will need go there and give user Plex “Full Control” , being certain to Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files.

After this is done, Plex will be able to start.

If none of this makes sense, please tell me what you did in User and Groups?

I followed one of your FAQ notes…uninstall, delete plex user, reinstall. And all is well. Thanks for all the effort you put into this forum.

Good, got you working.

Deleting user Plex and then re-installing triggers the installer to go looking and then verify everything it finds is owned by the new username plex.

I’m glad it worked for you.

Thanks, I do what I can. Glad it helped you.
