I’m trying to work out what is causing this seemingly random error I’m getting with Plex lately.
At the end of a TV episode or a movie (only a few minutes left generally) I’ll get an ‘Unexpected Playback Error’ which then usually locks up Plex so I’ll have to exit the app and relaunch to use again. I really can’t figure out the common thread here as it might happen watching an old 576p file but then it will play a 4K high bitrate file no worries at all or vice versa, there’s just no knowing when and if it will occur. It happens more often than not so it’s really taking the enjoyment out of using Plex so I’m hoping there’s a fix.
Plex Server runs on a brand new i5 12400, 16GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro, ethernet connection (gigabit).
3 x Samsung TVs (2 x 2020 models, 1 x 2019), all connected to 5GHz Wi-fi 6
I’ve got a gigabit fibre connection as well (not sure if relevant).
I know that ASS format subtitles don’t play nice for whatever reason so I always make sure to use SRT and everything is Direct Playing. 2 of the TVs run through soundbars (Samsung) while the other runs through an AVR.
Have been using these setups for ages without issue, what’s changed?
I’ve got the logs attached on my first post so hopefully some devs will see and investigate.
It’s not always subtitles for me unfortunately, a simple AVI file the other day did it and he soundtrack was only stereo. In fact I think it’s only lower quality files that are the issue. I’ve watched a bunch of 4K stuff in Atmos lately withouty issue yet chuck a 576 file on, see ya later.
I wonder if there’s something going on with the conversion? I can’t turn off Direct Play/Direct Stream on the player otherwise it buffers every few seconds.
I’ve got the same issue, just captured a video of it happening with console logs on the screen, and logged to the server as well. On Version 1.32.0.6973, running on a Synology NAS. 2019 Samsung Frame TV. Plex Media Server Logs_2023-04-28_22-59-26.zip (6.5 MB)

It occurs at the end of the stream. Approx. 1 min left.
It occurs only, at least for me, when the stream has subtitles (text subtitles) marked as FORCED, and probably in use. Could you also verify this, guys?
From my tests, the client is using direct play/direct stream, and the error message is related to transcoding, which is not happening, in my tests.
As detected by @hyperion306 in the other thread, something changed in the Server from 1.31.3.6868 to 1.32.3.7162.
For testing, Will recommend using Daily Anime with English subs.
