Unnecessary HEVC+Audio transcoding in Plex for Kodi

Any HEVC file gets always transcoded (and more annoyingly AC3-5.1 to stereo too) despite neither Plex Android TV App nor KODI via UPnP transcode anything.

Both play the same file without transcoding, using HDMI audio passthrough without any glitches.

Using:
* Plex for Kodi 0.1.1
* Kodi Krypton 17.4
* Server 1.8.3.4235
* Wetek Hub Android TV v2.3
* Audio passthrough ON everywhere (Android TV Config, Plex App & Kodi)

Thanks in advance!

All right, I’ll answer myself :slight_smile:

There’s a config setting to allow h265 direct play, which is disabled by default.

He just did.
Go into settings and tick the box for hevc/x265 playback.

I have the same issue. Most of my files work fine but a few still won’t direcrt play. They will on native plex app but not plex in Kodi :frowning:

seems like KODI on Android TV is trash for hevc.
I found out that all my hevc - remuxed blurays (not free x265) are being transcoded in PLEX via KODI.

Running on what device?

Sony Android TV and Philips Android TV.

@mmhorda did you enable hevc compatibility in the Plex settings, within Kodi? Not Kodi settings.

See this post, by default, it is unchecked causing the server to transcode. Shield Won't Play Video

Plex on Kodi on Android TV is in many ways better than the native Plex Android app.
