Using Android phone offline with music that is not synced

In order to get a significant amount of music on my phone I have copied mp3 versions directly onto the microsd card.
I would like to direct Plex at it and create an offline library. I don’t see how to do this.
Also, I do not see how to make smart playlists on the phone.

This is what I really need to do to get mobile value from Plex. It is great when connected by wireless/ethernet to the server, but I cannot find a way to get it to do a very common thing. To be able to make a smart playlist of music in a genre,so for example when I go to the gym I can listen to a random mix of music of a particular type.

Have I missed something?

Based on what I know, Plex mobile app isn’t really a local media player.

Plex as a whole allows you to access media you have on a central server. This normally happens over a network connection. The sync feature allows for the phone to keep a copy of what is on the server offline on the phone itself.

Other than photos, the Plex app isn’t able to scan for other local media on the phone and play it. You may want to look into another media player app that can handle local files. I personally keep around Poweramp and MX Player for music and videos respectively.

^^ Correct. The mobile app is not able to create a library. PMS is required to do that. When you sync, PMS creates that info and sends it to the mobile app. Having local media, there wouldn’t be a way for the app to organize it.
