v4.12.1 - Closed Caption not working anymore

ios

#1

Closed Caption has always work fine and correctly with mp4 files.
Forced Subtitles were shown perfekt.
When in container was "marked correctly", what to play (forced/with subtitle with witch audiotrack - on ipad and apple tv works great and perfekt.

In the new 4.12.1 forced subtitles are not more shown. please rollback to old slection/funktion !!!

#2

Plex will fix this or how i can go back to 4.12 ?

This is really a update with a big issue. Why they change this -((

#3

This is a major breakage for me as well.

#4

We're looking into this issue, sorry for the inconvenience!

#5

Are there any news?

#6

It seems the fix needs some work on the server side. We hope the server team can tackle it soon!

#7

Really ?

Before, the App works fine. I only updated the ios App - NOT the Server.

In the Releasenotes was:

Version 4.12.1 is now available.
FIXED:
- Closed captions could be enabled incorrectly.

Now, there is a Problem - before never...

#8

Correct. I'm running server 1.5x and I have many DVR recordings for which the Apple TV version can play captions but the iOS version no longer can.

I'm quite deaf and not having captions available on my iPad puts significant restrictions on when I can watch these recordings. This needs to be fixed...

#9

Interestingly, I took a fresh recording (using server 1.5x), played on my iPhone with no captions, and then Airplayed it to my Apple TV, where the captions showed up. Clearly the iPhone app is doing some parsing of the captions, but just failing to get them properly displayed.

Is there any word on this? This is a major concern for me since I do a lot of watching on iOS.

#10

Sorry, I didn't meant it was a server problem only, the issue is on both sides. We're working on it and hope to have a fix soon :/

Sorry for the inconvenience! :s

Hello Plexteam,

this is now 2 Month ago !
You really wan't to fix this?
I am German user. A lot of Movies have here Closed Caption.
This Caption are not shown any more. On ios and also on Apple TV.

When we can get an working update or is there a way to go back to last working version ?

Normally I like Plex - but the support is really bad at this point.

#12

A fix is on its way, it just turned out to be a bit more difficult than we anticipated.

Thanks for your patience.

#13

Can I take it this means captions labeled as EIA-608 will display correctly?

#14

For me, i speak about the native Apple Quicktime format (mp4/m4v)

My Wife and Children has the Version 4.12 on their Tablet. -> Works perfekt !
Always the Subs are displayed, like configured in the MP4 Header.

i wait long for an Update, but with the today new v4.16 NO! subtitles are shown. And with IOS i have no chance to go back in the plex version.
This feature has worked for 2 Years without problems and has stopped working with Version v4.13.
Also the AppleTV App. No Subtitles with Version 1.12. In Children Rooms with Vesion 1.11 no Problems.

I am really angry about this. I only wan't back something that works 2 Years without problems !

This is a container that is not working...:

#15

With today's iOS update, captions are now working for me again in Canada. This means, in turn, that the DVR and live TV features are useful to me again.

Thanks very much to the team for getting this fixed.

#16

Apparently the ability to read captions encoded as EIA-608 is still unsupported. I'm disappointed.

#17

What about EIA-608? The recent update fixes issue for CEA-708 (or EiA-708) not EiA-608

I thought I was able to watch some video that has this caption but no longer, it does tells me that I have this. PlexWeb does identify but does not show caption. On AppleTV, it is "off" I have to pull down to select "unknown cc" to turn on. The AppleTV setting have CC on. Although I am running TvOS 11beta

#18

@ecantrell @mediajolt can you provide some sample files with EIA-608 we can test with?

Thanks!

#19

Sorry, I didn't get this posting until now. How do you want me to provide the files?

#20

Hopefully generating a short sample file (instructions here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201035968-Generating-Sample-Files-from-Media) with which you can reproduce the issue, and then send me the file (or a Dropbox/Google Drive link) via Private Message.

Thank you!
