nice app. thanks you!
I just found the Tautulli Remote for iOS, and of course Varys too. Just in a simplistic iOS App Store overview of both apps, it initial appears largely both are displaying the same info, but I gather here, there are some key differences between the two.
If there something somewhere that highlights the differences, and would help me to decide to get one over the other?
For me, I have thus far not been able to get the [Remote for Tautulli] to work/connect so far, but the Varys, I love how seamless it was to setup/connect through my Plex Account, very intuitive.
Either way, GREAT work, most appreciated the granularity of details and support for that amazing Tautulli functionality.
Thank You
@gericb I never did this, but here is a list of all features of both apps, I hope I’ve covered everything
My personal suggestion would be to go with Varys, because this is “my” product I develop independently from anyone else and create new features for, while Tautulli is “just a remote” or mobile interface for the product of someone else. I hope that makes sense
EDIT: I’ve moved the comparison table to a central place, you can now find it on features.varys-app.com!
You ROCK! Thank you for much for not flaming me, and actually making this super awesome breakdown - MUCH APPRECIATED!
Any ideas on when notifications will work on Varys?
Could you add the Version of the Player and Product next to the Player/Product. The values are available in the sessions xml for the Plex Server and it would be nice to know the used Version so I can advice my users to update to the latest Versions. Aside from that the app is wonderful., thx a lot.
I notice if I start live OTA stream the poster for the shown is shown. But it is not updated if the stream continues on to the next tv show.
Maybe you can add a optional tautulli support in Varys to have all features? Like statistics and history in one app?
Great looking app.
Came here from the Plex Dash announcement. Guess I’ll try both and see what I land on using the most.
Purchased VARYS Pro. Regardless of what I get up using more, its a no brainer to support talented devs working on interesting projects.
First impression though, Varys to me feels like a better laid out UI. For a server monitoring app, the server graphs should be up front.
Dash oddly buried them in a menu in the Settings page
Well that just persuaded me to install it rather than Plex Dash!!!
Looking good …
wow, thx for the latest update
super cool
Hello,
So my goal is to see(which user) streams something from my Plex server and to log/monitor this so I can easily view this later. I installed both Tautulli and Varys and got them both on my iPhone as well (I do have reverse DNS).
Which product would give me what I need to see? Maybe just purchase both?!
@Lafiro basically both apps can do that. If you want to have a more detailed history (e.g. in which quality they streamed, ip addresses, …) you need a Tautulli server, Varys will (in very near future) be able to query those infos from your Tautulli server then as well, ofc. Remote for Tautulli app is also able to do so. If you’re just interested in which media was played both apps are fine. As mentioned in #63 I would suggest to go with Varys
I hope this helps
@luxus I can see that on the horizon
@luxus check out the latest update, it contains Tautulli integration for history details
Great looking app. Am currently on Varys trial to see if worth buying.
Where do I configure Tautilli integration? I have a Tautilli server running and dont want to buy both apps.
Also, a “trial” mode on Tautilli remote would also be cool
@poiromaniax go to server list (from activity tab use top right button) and swipe on any server from right to left
Thanks.
I would never have found that on my own
@grogster In the Tautilli config setup, you mention enabling maps under Settings -> Help & Info.
I see no option for this and googling around, also dont see any reference to it?
Can you elaborate pls?
I’m having an issue where I cannot use the app reliably when I am home and on WiFi - I keep on getting a message “Your server is not reachable” I would assume this relates to http local and https remote. Also local vs real IPs. However these are known and expected scenarios, which have not been an issue with the new Plex dash app. Your app is great, but if I can’t use it from home without turning off my WiFi half the time I see it as a curiosity. Please fix this. Please note the the issues have increased, not decreased, with recent versions of the app. I have version 1.10.2.506
@poiromaniax do you mean the option to enable api access? you might need to switch to advanced settings in Tautulli (next to restart/shutdown buttons in Tautulli settings)
@ebernet Varys is using all available connections Plex knows and is using that one that is responding first. I know that some (very few) users have this issue, but I never managed to reproduce this which makes it really hard to fix, because I need to understand first what the issue is. While developing Remote for Tautulli I came across this issue as well and there it was always an issue in the user’s network, where the router failed to resolve connections into it’s own network (keyword dns rebind protection). This setting in the network prevents the user to access the server in the local network. Can you please check if you can change your router’s settings in this regard maybe?
More background on that can be found here. Can you please also check if you can reach this page from your phone once it is in the same network: http://SERVER-IP:PORT/identity (replace server ip and port according to your setup)
