Intel hardware has generally **removed hardware support for the VC-1 format** , specifically for decoding with Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV).
While older Intel hardware (4th gen/Haswell and earlier) might have had some level of support, current and newer generations (such as Intel Arc GPUs and Meteor Lake CPUs) do not support VC-1 hardware acceleration for decoding or encoding.
**Implications**
- **Software Decoding:** Applications like **[Plex](https://www.plex.tv/)**, will automatically fall back to using the CPU (software decoding) to handle VC-1 streams if QSV hardware support
Is Plex able to know this and use my Nvidia Quadro P4000 card also in my server with Intel 17-12700 ?

Configure `Settings` \> `Transcoder` \> `Hardware transcoding device` to use the desired device for hardware accelerated transcoding. Auto uses the default GPU for the system (many times configured in system BIOS/UEFI).
If the selected hardware transcoding device is unable to decode VC-1 video, then Plex Media Server will fall back to software decoding.
Alder Lake (12th gen) CPUs supports decoding VC-1 video using Quick Sync graphics.
A Nvidia Quadro P4000 supports decoding VC-1 video.
If Plex were to fallback to software decoding, an i7-12700 is more than capable of decoding 1080p VC-1 video.
