Doesnt work here either. I always get the error “You are not viewing a movie or TV show episode”. Using Safari 5.0.5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Great idea though.
I’m getting the same error as above, I’m using safari v5.1 on snow leopard 10.6.8… Any idea how to get it to work?
Getting the same error on lion unfortunately :/
and I’m getting that as well
The bookmarklet broke due to a change in the URI structure of the webmanager. It has been fixed now!
Have been messing around with using bookmark’s in firefox, like the ‘Play Video’ bookmarklet, but instead to play the file on the Plex Client, creating a kind of web remote. Have attached javascript in file which can be added to the location of a bookmark. Browse to either a movie or tv episode and click bookmark and the file should start playing on Plex client on mac. Just some random fiddling to see what i could get working. Haven’t tried it with Safari
Does this only work on MAC? or should it work with Windows 7 and Safari/Firefox/Opera/IE9 ?
Tried it on the above but nothing happens for me :/
As far as I know this only works in Safari on Mac OSX (probably due to the streaming method that's being used).
Ok bummer, thanks for the MAC-version atleast, was hoping for some streaming to work :)
when i klick the bookmark i just get directed to http://plexapp.tv/bookmarklet/
You need to drag the javascript link at http://plexapp.tv/bookmarklet/ to your bookmarks bar. Then, on the webpage for your PMS install, click the boomarklet in your bookmarks bar to run the javascript on that page.
Yepp, thats what i did :) Still didn't work. Should have mentioned that.
Works very well! Thanks for developing this
Please try to add in support for Plex servers that have Authentication enabled.

This is the javascript url that needs to be bookmarked:
javascript:if(typeof(js_included)%3D%3D'undefined')%7Bvar%20head%3Ddocument.getElementsByTagName('head')%5B0%5D%3Bvar%20script%3Ddocument.createElement('script')%3Bscript.type%3D'text%2Fjavascript'%3Bscript.src%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fplexapp.tv%2Fbookmarklet%2Fmain.js'%3Bhead.appendChild(script)%3B%7Dfunction%20check()%7Bif(typeof%20start%3D%3D'function')%7Bstart()%3B%7Delse%7BsetTimeout('check()'%2C500)%3B%7D%7Dcheck()%3B
Thank you, but how do i use it?
Like it says on the webpage, make that link a bookmark in your bookmarks bar/folder. Then, when you've selected an individual movie or tv show episode in your PMS's webUI, click on the javascript bookmark you created. It should start playing the video. The screencast on that webpage is pretty clear, I think. I included the actual javascript because I believe you're somehow bookmarking that webpage and not the javascript link. Dragging the play video link to your bookmarks bar should let you run that javascript on any page. Again, this is only confirmed as working on safari on osx.

Ofc, silly me :) Thank you, works great!
Anyone tried this on Firefox and Windows 7?

Hey sander1 !
Concerning the stream quality, you don’t have to create a setting. One bookmark per quality could be a good alternative. For example : “Bookmark quality 10” → Main10.js → enable transcoding at quality 10
I am interested to have bookmarks for qualities higher than 10. I am curious to know if the CPU of my Core i7 can transcode a bluray into an high quality stream
Thanks !
Just a bump to see if anyone had any joy getting the bookmarklet to work outside of the Mac OSX?! As much as I love PLEX I can’t use that as justification to fork out on a MacBook!
