Videos not playing remotely on Fire TV stick/Android devices

So this seems to be a common post and the old answer was to switch off the new player on the fire stick. However there is no option to do this on the android app itself and since the recent update on Fire TV the option to switch off the new player has been removed. PLEASE fix this! Either make the new player work or bring back the option to switch it off. This quite frankly is not good enough. I was a long time subscriber to Plex Pass and recently upgraded to lifetime because I believe in this software. But if my users can’t access video remotely and I can’t access it on my android devices it is all a massive waste of time and money and makes my server about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

There are lots of reasons why a video may not play. There isn’t a single common cause. Please provide details on what doesn’t work and provide logs from the Android app and PMS after reproducing the problem so we can investigate.

Looks like you are using a custom domain. Make sure you enter that domain address in this PMS setting.

Restart PMS, then restart the Android app.

This has already been added and has been this way since I set up the custom domain 2 years ago

Do you also have a custom certificate? The app is complaining that the certificate you have doesn’t match.

02-14 17:09:11.207 i: [FFmpeg] [ERROR] [tls @ 0xb99b1ff0] The certificate’s owner does not match hostname plex.xxx.xxx

OK well my server is behind a reverse proxy which generates it’s own certificates via Lets Encrypt, so this shouldn’t matter. And if the issue were down to anything you have suggested previously then why would the new player effect remote play so drastically. I do feel you are avoiding that question. When the option was there, you could literally switch it off and the videos would play again.

The old player had a bug where it wasn’t enforcing a secured connection. The new player does enforce it, hence the error.

So, do I need to generate a separate certificate for my PMS in that case, regardless of already having one in place on the reverse proxy?

I’m not familiar with using a reverse proxy or with custom certificates, but something is wrong with your setup so that the app can’t connect securely with your server.

OK so I think this worked. Generated a certificate using WACS and added to my PMS. When tested both on mobile and a remote fire client, I can no longer find the error you pointed out in the logs. Everyday is a school day. Thought I had totally optimised my setup but clearly not. Thanks for the pointers and apologies if I was a bit shouty to begin with  .

No problem. Glad you got this working.

I’m hoping you could help me as well…

Please provide you Android and server logs and I can check if it is a similar issue. If not, I will transfer this discussion to it’s own topic.

Edit - Oh, I see you were responding from another thread. If you are using a custom certificate or custom URL then see the discussion above. If not, then go back to your original thread and provide the logs there. Android phone

I will do that on my original post thanks sir…

My issue has been solved …

Was one of my routers ip address conflict.
