Suddenly this morning, I can’t get any videos from my Plex library to play on my Android mobile. It’s been working perfectly for years now, I love it, but today, when I try to play any video, I click on , the little circle spins like it’s trying to load, but nothing ever happens. I have let it spin for 5 min, normally it only takes a few seconds.
It plays just fine on my PC, and on my Roku stick in my TV, so I don’t think it’s the server or the videos, they play just fine elsewhere, but not on my Android suddenly.
I have tried clearing the Cache and memory on the Android Plex app, I have Forced Stopped it, and restarted, I have rebooted the device, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled, logged in. Everything I could think of. The menus and content are all there as expected, showing the next episode ready to watch, etc. But no matter what I select, it goes to the loading window, and then doesn’t play.
Am I missing something here? Was there an update last night of the server or Android app, that maybe has a new bug in it, that is preventing the Android from playing?
I hope someone can help me with this, as I really like watching on my android.
I have same issue on my Android mobile. It just shows the orange circle and nothing more, like it is trying to cache data to start streaming but never does.
Weird thing is, this does not only happen with using mobile data network. I tried to stream an episode in lowest quality on my home network and same issue, while all other devices on the same network are working great with original quality of the episode I am trying to watch.
I tried on my LG TV app, Windows 10 web, Nvidia Shield Pro and Stick, and my Xiaomi device. All work great and can watch any episode or movie at original resolution but on android mobile, I can’t play anything even at the lowest resolution.
It is definitely the app at fault, as when I access my Plex server with the web (Firefox browser) on same android mobile, I can play any episode or movie from both LAN and mobile data.
Same issue on the newest Shield Client und Android App. I can see all my movies and click on them to start playing but the yellow circle just keeps spinning and the video won’t play no mather how long I wait. Also there is no error message. On the Browser in the “Dashboard” section “Now playing” shows nothing. Like the Client cant connect to server, but browsing movies/series works fine so the connection seems to be there.
The Webclient plays the same video just fine. Also unistalling all updates on the Shield Client (to 5.6) helps and it plays the videos again. All on local network with external HDD shared to plex server on shield via network share.
This happens to me with a new version of the Plex android app once in a while. Either buffering forever and strange error messages no matter what I try to play. Most of the time, I just need to go into android settings, choose apps and select the plex app, I force it to stop and clear the cache (not the data) for the plex app. After restarting Plex, the problems usually goes away.
This really shouldn’t ever be necessary, but a lot of things go wrong with the plex app that shouldn’t ever happen.
Tried this action myself, did not work. Tried Clear Cache first, then Clear Cache & Data, then full uninstall and install, same issue.
It is weird that Plex app on Android TV works, but Plex on Android mobile does not. Most likely a different app version for mobile, and I assume Plex app on Android tablet is also different as it works ok on my Android tablet.
So it definitely looks like something broke in latest app for mobile devices.
