Watch Together - immediate session error "Could not join at this time." - local media and Movies - help!

Server Version#: 1.22.3. 4497
Player Version#: Web 4.56.4

Hello there - A couple of weeks ago, me (lifetime pass) and my friends (free membership) were able to all watch a movie together streamed from my own library using the Watch Together functionality. Worked great.

Today, Watch Together creates an immediate error when trying to do the same thing, either with any movie from my library, or even the streaming movies from the Movies section. My friends get the same error as I do. Plex seems to create the session, but anybody attempting to join is told

“Watch Together Session Error / Could not join at this time”

My network settings haven’t changed. Is this feature reliant on part of the Plex network that may be malfunctioning? Is this working ok for everybody else? Anybody seen and fixed this error before?

I know that technically it’s not required to be able to watch a movie together… but I would like this working.

I have the same situation, latest version, yesterday it was working fine. The plex ios app does give some more details:

The server is installed on ubuntu as a docker container.

Also ive tried to enable and disable ssl, both without desired effect.

I’m having the exact same error, Plex server is setup on a Windows 10 system. It was working just fine last weekend. I was one Plex version behind and thought that might have something to do with it, so I updated to the latest version to no avail.

I’ve tested on the Plex app on Android TV, on a Mac computer and on a Windows 10 laptop, all of them have the exact same error with one exception: on Android TV it acts like it’s going to load in, but it says that both myself and the other person are “invited” and the “Play” button just says “Please Wait…”

A small note: there where no logs that I could relate to this issue.

Also I found this in the chrome dev console:

Looks like an expired cert.

I disabled ssl altogether in my server setup  to test this out, but the issue persists

Fixed for me now, try restarting your server.

It’s working for me now as well!

Yes, I can confirm it is working again. I am new to plex, and am still in the process of getting everything in good order in my docker environment. Still trying out tweaks and better configurations (amongst other things getting letsencrypt to work).
This made me strongly believe I have had a faulty config somewhere.

It seems that some SSL cert that is used by plex in the background was expired, or something.

Yes, seems fine now and was working only hours after my post. A weird one!
