What Do I need to Install on Macbook as Plex client?

Hi

I have Plex media Server installed on my iMac and the Amazon firestick app installed on the Firestick and all is working well. But I want to use my two Apple Macbooks in my house to access the Plex Media Server.

Can anyone advise what I need to install such as an app or similar on my Macbooks to access the Server on my iMac ?

I can browse to the Server and bookmark it but thats a bit old fashioned

Plex Media Player: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app

You can use Plex Web, https://app.plex.tv/desktop. However, PMP is a much more capable client. It supports more audio/video codecs than the various web browsers.

Thanks for replying.

I wondered about that. So I can install the PMS on every device in the network and log onto each one and in effect each one will act as a client. I won’t be watching movies on the iMac which is the actual server

Not PMS.
PMP. That is a separate download. Available below.

Doh!

Thanks Otto so I just downlad the PMP app again on each laptop, sign in of course, and they will effectively work as clients ?

PMP is a client. It runs on MacOS & Windows. Download to your MacBooks, install, sign in, & stream away.

Plex has a client-server architecture. Plex Media Server, aka PMS, is the server component. It streams your media to various clients on various platforms. One such client is the Plex app that runs on Amazon Firesticks & other Android devices. Another such client is Plex Media Player, aka PMP, which runs on MacOS & Windows.

Appreciate the clear explanations guys… thank you. My son runs Plex in his house and I cant belive how good it is as a media server on mine. Very polished and seamless

I was going to buy a NAS or microserver but have decided to just store my movies on an external drive on my iMac which is i7 4 core so handles it perfectly. 1080p movies stream to my TV viw firestick perfectly in both video and audio. Great product
