What is with the new Plex layout with the online BS (home crap), all I want are my MOVIES

WHY WHY WHY did you change the home layout to this new online garbage with NO option to revert or setup on your own?! Plex is about HOME movies, and streaming my HOME movies, not this online BS I don’t want to see online content when trying to simply play a movie for my kids (some of it is not appropriate at times) but that’s not my gripe, my gripe is WHY is it there to begin with?! I am technical, my family is not, so who do you think is annoyed EVERY TIME they want to show a home movie, that’s right, ME! Give us an option to revert to the old layout OR DON’T FORCE US TO USE SOMETHING WE DIDN’T want nor paid for! I paid for my Plex license solely to use my home movies on my TV’s, I stream them through my laptop (server) to either my Android (Pixel 3XL) using the Plex app, OR on my Amazon Fire TV. The Amazon TV app is the ridiculous one that now takes me to “home” which lands online content I don’t want to see, now I have to click “MORE” then scroll through the list to find my home movies, WTF?!

Number 1, I don’t want this, all I want to do is quickly play home movies for my kids, number 2, why did you do this? This now uses internet resources to list things on the home screen that I don’t want to see now nor care about ever seeing in my lifetime. Now I have to scroll through a bunch of crap to get to my home movies, home movies ARE THE SOLE purpose of PLEX! DEVS please dont make this into an online streaming BS app that resembles Netflix so you can sell/resell content. Not when this is for HOME movies, PLEX is for home movies, this is what made you who you are, do not fall away from that! Home movies are all I want and what Plex is GREAT at doing! I have Netflix, if I wanted online content, I would use Netflix, Google (YouTube), Hulu, or the billion other online streaming apps available, BUT NOT on MY PLEX! My PLEX IS MY HOME MOVIES, please stop trying to become something you’re not supposed to be, leave it with home movies, or give us the option to disable this terrible content and horrible online garbage no one wants.

DEVS LISTEN TO US the customers, if you continue doing this kind of crap, you will lose more and more of us, the customers. INSTEAD focus on the BUGS, I would love to just watch ONE movie all the way through without PLEX crashing (server or agent), both are ALWAYS updated to the very latest so its bugs! Yet BUGS are not the primary focus, instead, new BS content is made the focus, why, so they can try to make more money while losing focus on the core app that made them who you are! This kind of stuff royally pi$$e$ me off! Pex used to work flawless, and without the new home crap, now it crashes all the time and has things I dont want!

AND before I get bashed by everyone, I have tested this on multiple laptops, multiple architectures, and multiple agents/servers, they all crash and all display this new theme of online content.

Ignore me, dont listen to us, IDC, I will move on, there are SO many choices now that we dont have to stay with Plex anymore. Plex at one time had the market cornered, but that was a long time ago. Do not become the next RIM (Blackberry) by thinking your way is the only way and WE, the customers WILL conform, trust me, we wont, we will leave, your business will die off and become a great memory (like Blackberry).

Plex is evolving, I guess. I am also not into the online stuff, but hey ho.

You can disable and remove the online sources from settings -> Online media

I didn’t get it in my screenshot, but you can also disable Web Shows.

Thank you for the reply! I appreciate it, and I did do that already but the point is, I shouldn’t have to. I shouldn’t have to sift through all these new BS options to get back to the core app Plex was designed for. Home movies, that’s all Plex is and should be. I still have the “home” just without content now, still have to sift through to get back to my home movies. ARGHH I hate devs that dont care about us.

I am glad I am not the only one who dislikes it, maybe the more we complain, the more they will listen. It just pisses me off when devs ignore the CORE app that made them who they are in lieu of new marketing ploys that damages the core service. This is exactly what is happening now.

I “pinned” the movies to the home screen, but my 80 year old mother will still have trouble with it. She used to be great at playing movies for my kids, it was simple, open Plex, click on movie, play, now forget it.

Why is that all Plex should be?

Companies and services evolve all the time; Microsoft isn’t what it first was, neither is Apple, neither is <insert any company here>, so why shouldn’t Plex also change with the times?

I don’t dislike the online content, I am simply not interested in it; it’s not for me.

I am honestly not sure what there is to complain about the online content here.

They added new functionality that I am not interested in so I hid it - that’s it.

[edit: specified it was the online content I am writing about]

You are right, my parents couldn’t use Microsoft either. That’s exactly my point, they took something that worked and was so easy to use that my 80 year old parents could do it ON THEIR OWN, WITHOUT MY HELP. They only had to turn on TV, click on Amazon TV, load movie (laptop is ALWAYS on), a damn 2-year old could do it! Then they added in this new online crap, but didnt add a way to revert to the classic look that users know. Instead they added a bunch of BS to “stay with the times” but not really, its to sell more crap all while losing the original design. For me, its not an issue, its my parents and my kids, neither of them can scroll through the more, more, find my laptop, then FIND the movies, it USED to only display the movies right in the home screen so a monkey could do it.

Thats my complaint, if they made these new great add-ons for the streaming content BUT LEFT a way to work like the old/default way, then the more power to ya, its when they REMOVE such features and make it impossible for the older/younger generations to understand how to do things. This makes it so they call me every 5 minutes to help, that’s what annoys me. This is what they have done here, now neither my 80 year old parents or kids can do this without my help which is pointless. I will use another service.

You do realize, you cant hide the Amazon Fire TV main menu, the MORE is always there, you HAVE to click MORE MORE, then my laptop, then MOVIES in this new version to see and find my laptop. Its not about the online content per se, its about the functionality they removed to ADD the stupid online content.

Now that, I understand.

My parents have stopped using Plex altogether for their own DVD collection because it is no longer simple/easy to navigate. Unfortunately, they are streaming from my server so finding something else (with easy navigation) isn’t easy.

Right it sucks, so WHY add in this new online crap but forget about the original users? It turns us off, so I was bitching about it. I will move on I guess, Plex isnt what it used to be anymore. Its sad, I used to LOVE Plex, not anymore. Now its just bug riddled with new crap that doesnt work.

there should be an UNO OPTION to ALWAYS EXPAND “MORE” which shows all libraries and servers

I am only using Apple TV as a client.

I agree, I wish it were so but its not. Hopefully by me complaining, it will raise noise and they fix it before losing all of us customers.

Understood, I am Android guy, so I have no idea how an Apple looks. Amazon Fire was a gift otherwise it would only be Android across the board. Dont get me started on Apple

you aren’t the only one complaining, you merely have to search the forum for UNO and see dozens or more threads with hundreds of comments already.

oh awesome, thats all I wanted to know and hear, others complaining, that usually means the devs will listen, its when they dont, we all leave. Thanks!

What I mean is, there should be an option that the user can set, which will default to showing “MORE”, so the user does not have to ‘pin’ their libraries.

IE - The default view would show all libraries and all servers.

Do you still have to go through all of this even if you pin your movie library to the sidebar? The new UNO UI should allow you to do so. So on top of having the library on your “Home” screen, you can also let it be the first thing you see when you open the sidebar. If you have any questions on how to do it, just let me know!

yes even with the “movies” pinned they have to go through this, pinning the movies only removes one step, and once its highlighted will show the movies once tabbed over to the right side but its nowhere near as easy as it should be and once was. No I dont need help, I need the UI fixed the way it should be. I took a pic if anyone wanted to see it but I can assure you, its not the way it should be. It should be, click Plex,Plex opens, all home movies pop-up and can be viewed in the home screen with the brief description and the “play” button, right from the get go. They shouldn’t have to sift through first opening plex, then finding the movies pinned, then tabbing to the right (using the Amazon remote which is not easy for older generations to use), then hovering over the movies to play them. It should be all there from the only homescreen page, the way it used to be, not the way it is now.

Exactly, the default should ONLY be the movies I own and are serving through my Plex server, nothing else, or at least an option to make it that way.

Developers need to remember UI is EVERYTHING to an app. Kill the UI experience, you lose the user base.

This can be closed, I updated to a new smart TV with built-in video/USB player so I don’t need nor use Plex anymore (there’s no point), my TV does it all WITHOUT the need to stream so plex lost another paying customer (which I warned was going to happen if they didn’t fix the issues).
