You have discovered the brand new level of SUCK contained in most Plex apps - the Fire TV App sure to be heaped up with double helpings of SUCK for your enjoyment.
One question though…:
Which version is the travesty?
The second, “new” one is the travesty. The first was a lot better. In the “new” one, I can’t even see episode numbers in shows, I only see the name of the show because I usually name them Showname - 3x02 - Episodename
For example, I have a documentary series called The Great War. With the old UI, I could read the entire name, like “The Great War - 1x01 - On The Idle Hill of Summer”
What I want to know is: W(where)TF are the controls to turn off 90% of this Horse**** sprayed all over the screen Plex Developers are so good at vomiting up - so I can find MY MEDIA hidden in there somewhere? I heard big stories of ‘Customizable Interface’, ‘User Defined Hubs’, etc. What I see is Same-0-**** Crammed down my throat.
Now to find out how long it is before I have to ‘Force Stop, Clear Cache and Reboot Fire TV’ to get the dam app working again.
Stand by… shouldn’t be too long.
Same Turd, squeezed out, pinched off and rolled in different nut chunks.
That is the HORRIBLE Android version of Plex. Not only is it very different BUT they have stupidly removed much basic functionality like hitting the “play” button no longer starts a highlighted “On Deck” video playing.
You, and I guess most of us by now, were forced downgraded to it recently.
There is much that I actually find OK with it but the removal of basic functionality is simply STUPID.
This move by Plex has relegated my Fire TV device from the “Rarely used for Plex” to the “Never used for Plex” category. I hope the people that made the totally unneeded decision to move the Fire TV app in this horrible direction choke on their own excrement.
Plex just continues down the path to unusability on various devices. Right now they are still better than the competition but, if they continue to move backward, that may not last.
At this point I REALLY wish Emby was better but it is not so I am stuck with Plex.
But that could easily change if Plex continues their steady march to inferiority.
If the UI isn’t reverted, I’ll have to rename essentially every display name of every show and every movie I have in my Plex library. Since the display name and sort name are two separate entities, it’s certainly possible, even though the new UI COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY SUCKS ASS!!!
Does anyone know of a freeware software out there that would offer what Plex used to be? I have tried Kodi before but couldn’t make heads or tails out of it and never got it to work.
Here’s the heartbreaker - Plex Media Server is FANTASTIC! There is no substitute.
Unfortunately Plex Developers know this.
It’s also unfortunate that NOT ONE developer on the payroll has a single effing clue about App Design because they keep vomiting up this crap and forcing it on users.
OUTSOURCE THE APP DESIGN!
YOU SUCK AT IT!
YOU SUCK BAD!

I have 3 FireTVs…the new UI is displayed on only one of them - thanks goodness because the new UI looks bad. Please go back to the previous one.
Over time your remaining functional Fire devices will get upgraded and rendered dysfunctional. It is the way of Plex for the last year or two. They take what is not broken and fix it in order for the programmers to have something to do fixing the fix. It is like taking the dog to the Vet to have him fixed and have him develop an infection. Not only have perfectly functional parts been removed but the Vet has gained additional income from the subsequent visits to fix what was screwed up by the first. These HORRIBLE updates are simply job security for the programmers. There is no other reason for breaking what was at least working before.
For those requesting that Plex “Go back;” that ain’t going to happen. Plex NEVER admits they are wrong even when they are and the NEVER revert to earlier superior code. It is not that the can’t it is simply that they don’t and no amount of yelling or requesting will make it happen. The best we can hope for is that Plex will fix some of the worst of the problems they introduce when they force upgrade us.

Any info about the new version? My wife just IM’d me from home and asked if Plex got an update and said it SUCKS. WTF?
Plex - Now Serving over 1 Million Divorces
(make that 1,000,001)
Oh wait till you get home. If she lets you in, one look at this new abomination will reveal a level of SUCK you could not have imagined in any corn-dog and funnel-cake nightmare. It took the deep, time honored and highly trained Plex Method of SUCK delivery to make this happen.
On second thought If you have kids I hope you had them and your pets skin-tagged. You may never see either again.
I switched to Kodi now. I have no clue how I can create a movie library on the fire tv app like it used to be on Plex but I can access the Plex Media server with it.
I’ve got to say … it’s horrible. It’s like someone released an early alpha mock-up or something? Even really basic UI things like using ALL CAPS LABELS which are harder to read (http://uxmovement.com/content/all-caps-hard-for-users-to-read/) How do you exit from a movie you’re playing? One click on back just hides the controls … turns out two will do it, but how is that intuitive? The 10 sec forward/back functionality is still there, but no longer marked as such …
As for the main page … it’s CRAMPED. It feels physically constricting. What the hell happened?
I’ve recommended Plex to friends and family and I’m going to be really embarrassed when their Fire TV sticks update to this. Pretty sure older relatives like my mother aren’t going to be able to use it.
I agree with all the comments posted in this thread.
I came back home, open Plex on my Firestick and I was disgusted by the looks of the new interface.
I mean, WTF why change it?
None of the Plex users asked for a UI change and certainly it was not posted in the coming up updates…
It looks now more like a phone app rather than a TV app.
It is definitely easier to navigate via touch screen rather than with a remote control…
I have to agree, this new interface is horrible. I like to display my files using folders because almost all of my files are personal videos; the are not typical tv shows or movies. I used folder view and displayed the list of files with the complete filename rather than icons. Now, All I see is icons, and if the file names are too long ( i guess ) it gets truncated to the first 5 or 6 letters. This is completely useless if you have several videos that the filenames are long and begin with the same few letters. I have one folder, and all I see are 25 icons with the title of “SCCA…” (these are my videos of local Sports Car Club of America races.) Completely useless, it was so much better before. If anyone knows how (or maybe IF) you can go back and change that, I would like to know.
First thing my wife said to me is “What happened to Plex?”. It’s horrid and nearly impossible to use. Where’s the Dashboard and the On Deck and Recently Added queues?
Don’t like the new UI. It may work well on a touch screen but doesn’t with a remote. The playback controls taking up half the screen is just ridiulous. I had been using plex on firestick mostly but after this, I’m going back to using my smart TV app.
