# Whole house loses internet when remote access enabled

Server Version#:1.30.0.6406
Player Version#:4.87.2
Ok. So Plex is running in TrueNAS Core. Version TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1
I have solid connections all through my house. And can connect remotely if I VPN into my network. I would like to not have to toggle my VPN every time I want to play something, and would like to get remote access working.
My network has a TP-Link Omada ER605 and a Netgear Modem. I can successfully port forward for Parsec and Minecraft servers and Remote desktop.
However, when ever I enable the port forward for Plex I lose all internet, but LAN stays working.
I’ve tried a couple different ports ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 and it always breaks my internet.
I have also tried enabling UPnP for the network and it’s been same results.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Limit the protocol to TCP packets _only_.

Where’s your sense of adventure? 🙂
Disabling UDP should be done for security, but I’m not optimistic about it being the cause of other Internet problems.
How do you recover when it happens - can you still access the router and just disable the new port forward? Does it happen whether Plex is running or not?
It’s weird that the router calls it **Source Port** but I think that’s just cosmetic. Source Port _means_ something else.
Do any of the other port forwards have **DMZ** enabled?
Is UPnP enabled or disabled on the router?

Ok so, it might be some oddity with TP-Link system? I haven’t had this happen with any other port forward though. I ran across [this reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/comments/mwlugh/port_forwarding_is_not_working_right/)
I applied the port forward and waited for the internet to go out. Then set a time for two minutes and almost on the dot, it came back… Then the internet went away again and didn’t come back.
this entire time, my VLANs have remained operational. That’s how I’m able to revert the settings on my router. I just rebooted the entire network, ER605, 2 Switches and 3 APs and I appear to be back up and running with external access to my plex server.
I also disabled UDP at Volts recommendation.

I have a TP-Link here and I don’t think I’ve gotten manual port forwarding to work the one or two times I tried it. When I just use uPnP everything is fine. Never had an issue with losing all internet to devices either.

See if you could replace the stock firmware with something from the Open Source community. Like Open WRT, dd-wrt, Tomato etc.

Is this the “Omada” cloud-thing-router-network from TP-Link? I haven’t used it myself, but people seem to generally like it.
“Everything spazzes out until I reboot the network” isn’t the biggest compliment though!

So as of reboot everything appears to be working. This seems to be a omada issue rather than Plex issue.
After rebooting whole network everything appears to be stable. I apparently freaked out too quickly after losing WAN during update
