Why were poster images removed for home videos on AppleTV's latest update?

In the latest update for Plex on Apple tv, all home videos on the home page and in their libraries no longer show the poster image. It now shows a rectangular screen shot type image which crops the image I created for them. I have made poster images for all my personal videos. Now they show up cropped in the middle of the image (except when you go to the actual specific video page, then the full poster shows up). It was perfect before, why was this changed? Is there any way we can choose what image is shown for videos?

I can’t confirm the issue exactly as you have it since I don’t assign personal movie posters through the Plex web interface, I do it through this metadata agent. If you don’t mind having side-car files along with your family movies, this is to me the best method because if you reinstall Plex from scratch you don’t have to set your posters manually again, it will just pick it up from the side-car files using that metadata agent.

Can confirm that as of today with Plex version 1.12 (5992) on AppleTV, my custom family movie posters display beautifully using the above method.

I have the same issue as the OP. On the AppleTV client and iOS client, the movie portrait posters I have created are now cropped to show the middle in landscape mode and looks terrible. The web client for Plex displays the poster properly. If I redesign my poster to be in landscape mode, it looks great in the apple clients, but terrible in the web client which then crops the middle in portrait mode!

The Plex software team needs to make a product decision as to how it should behave and be consistent about it. I would prefer portrait orientation, but if you want to do landscape, that’s fine - I’ll redesign my posters, but I want it to look good in all the clients!

Exactly. This has been a PITA forever. Posters look good on one app and cropped on the next. Make the decision, and apply that decision across all the apps.

I just posted my very first “other videos” and had the same problem. I created posters for the web version and they’re displayed correctly, but on my iPad (mini version 4), they’re horizontal and cropped. I checked the forum and hoped that I did something wrong but I saw this posting. I guess I’ll hold off making more posters until I find out which version they’re going to use. I personally think portrait is better because that’s what they use for real movies.
