# Will a fast upload(940 Mbps) result in less transcoding

When streaming remotely, if the server has a fast upload, say 940 Mbps, will that result in significantly less transcoding and more direct play? Assuming you have a fast download speed where your watching from.

every client should be set to ‘original’ on the quality \> remote setttings.

IF the client is able to play the file in its original form.
Which means if you use Plex Player for Windows/Mac or Plex Media Player the chances of avopiding transcoding are high.
If you are using the Plex Web app, transcoding will still occur often.

Well, it depends. The stream rate will help, but not necessarily the encoding.
So for example, let’s say you have an MP4. In it is a 15Mb h265 and AAC 7.1. You want to watch that on an older roku. Your server will transcode that h265 not because it cannot do the 15Mbps, but the player cannot do h265. Similarly, it will trans-code that AAC to AAC and many get confused as to why. What it is doing is converting 7.1 to 5.1 or even 2.0. Again this is because you are watching it on the Roku.
So really the direct play and less transcoding depends on the client as much as the bandwidth.
