I can record video on my camcorder at 1080i or 1080p in AVCHD- .mts files or 720p- .mp4 files. The 1080 .mts files look cleaner and sharper so I would love to record in those but then when I try to play them on Plex they won’t play… The .mp4 files play well but just don’t look as good. Will plex play the AVCHD .mts files soon? ---

`mts` is just a container. It can contain several different “codecs”. To answer your question one has to know which particular codec your camera uses. The easiest way is to inspect one of your .mts files with [mediainfo](https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo "mediainfo"). Then use the ‘file’ ‘export’-‘text’(advanced) to export the results of the inspection into a text file which you can post here. Another good method would be to record a short clip (~ 1 min) with your camera and upload it to e.g. Dropbox and post the download link here. I could analyse the file myself and experiment a bit how to preserve the quality and make it compatible with Plex. Please also mention what type of device runs your Plex media server on. ---

They’ve state they don’t plan to support disc based formats i.e. m2ts etc ---

And some more files providing menus which need a Java virtual machine to even get displayed etc. It is this mess which is not supported. ---
