I have been using a Hyper-V virtual machine for a couple months because Windows Server 2008 is not supported. It would really be nice to have Plex run as a service, which I cant do with Hyper-V (the virtual machine starts but I have to log in to the virtual machine for it to work). Thanks.
or is there already? Last I checked was when I installed the server a while ago.
Why waste development effort to enable new features/capabilities on a product that was retired 2 years ago?
Because it’s not extinct yet. I know it’s probably not worth the effort, I’m just asking if they plan to do anything with it. Also, windows server 2016 is too expensive just to run a program that probably should have support for most of the windows server OSs. But yeah, I’d say windows server 2008 would be the oldest I would request there be support for, understanding that it’s probably not worth the development all because, maybe, 20 people want it. Just asking if they have any plans for it.
2008 R2 has always been supported.
Just 2008 (without the “R2”) is not.
On Windows Server versions, you might have to install the “desktop experience” or the “media feature pack” to get all prerequsites for Plex. (Namely the ‘Windows Media Player’ and its codecs)
Do also enable automatic update of ‘core’ certificates, which might be disabled by default in the Windows Server editions.
more here (please read all the posts):
side note: this is not a feature request, therefore I’ll move this out of the ‘feature request’ forum
Thanks for your help
