Windows Plex Media Player Audio settings are not sticking

In Settings → Player → Audio I’m trying to have the Audio Device always set to my AV Receiver, HDMI, 5.1. I’ve selected “Exclusive Audio” and I’m passing through all the digital audio. It’s working fine, but…

Sometimes after a reboot of the computer the Audio Device will revert to Auto Select rather than my AV Receiver. I was thinking that the problem could be maybe my PC doesn’t always know that the receiver is there so I tried adding a GEFEN HDMI Detective which should make the PC think the receiver is always there.

Either way the audio device setting will sometimes reset to auto select. What am I doing wrong?

I did some more troubleshooting on this. The Audio Device will change from “AV Receiver (Intel® Display Audio)” to “Auto select device” when Plex Media Player is running and either:

I unplug the display cable (Displayport to HDMI cable), or
I remote desktop to this computer running PMP

If PMP is not running and I unplug or remote desktop it will not cause the settings to change.

Is there any way to have this setting “stick” and not automatically change after a remote desktop connection or unplugging the HDMI cable?

I’ve been trying to figure that out for a couple of years… no luck yet.

I do find if I leave PMP on the TV and not move it (even changing ports, for weeks idle) - nothing changes, of course. The minute I start dragging it around it seems to want to be overly helpful - by picking the wrong audio device.

Sound familiar?

Note:
Plex for Windows is infected with the same disease - unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds similar to my problem.
Does anyone know if this is a feature, a bug, or maybe something that just can’t be avoided?
