Windows Server crashing when attempting to play some files

Server Version#: Version 1.19.5.3035
Player Version#: Plex for Samsung 4.29.6
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-07-15_20-56-47.zip (1.9 MB)

The Windows Plex Server crashes with no message whenever I play some files. One file I tested crashed the server when played from my Samsung Tizen app and from the Xbox app but not when played from the ipad app. I’ve played a bunch of other files successfully.

This server used to be running on Linux and I imported all the settings into a brand new install of a Windows Server if that helps at all. The crash happens right at the beginning of playing before any video appears.

After some investigation, it appears the affected files have no option for None when selecting subtitles. if I use the web interface to delete all of the subutitles, “None” appears in the list again and the files can be played. Not sure why that happens or exactly how many files in my library are affected. I’m concerned that one of the people I’ve shared my library with will try to play one and take down the server.

Collecting logs on a crash are different than the normal logs unfortunately .

  • Note : The next time you launch the application, the crash logs will be uploaded for aggregate analysis of crashes and will then be removed. Therefore, please retrieve the crash log prior to launching Plex Media Server again

I have seen a similar crash when the media files had no stream information in the database.

Could you get me a zipped download of the Plex Media Server database (available through the Troubleshooting Plex Web screen)

You can send me the zipped db in Private Message

When did the issue start ? Did the media files play ok before ?

The one that crashed the server was
Penny Dreadful - S2 E3 - The Nightcomers

Also could you get me the xml response to this request you can put in a browser

http://192.168.1.116:32400/library/metadata/24527?includeExternalMedia=1&Accept-Language=en&includeConcerts=1&includeExtras=1&includeOnDeck=1&includePopularLeaves=1&includePreferences=1&includeChapters=1&includeStations=1&includeExternalMedia=1&asyncAugmentMetadata=1&checkFiles=1&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxx

Copy the response and save into a text file
You would need to replace the xxxxxxxx with a server token
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/204059436-finding-an-authentication-token-x-plex-token/
