WinTV-dualHD not being found

I am looking to use the DVR function with my WinTV-dualHD Tuner, but it just says “looking for compatible devices on your network” and never finds it. The tuner is installed in Windows 10 and working correctly with other software, but Plex fails to see it.

Any ideas why?

Same is happening to me, It’s a shame we dont have a step by step guide on how to set this up

Got the WinTV-dualHD plugged in to my computer, with wintv 8 running, on windows 10, nothings showing up on the on the plex scan, HauppaugeTVServer is running in services

same here, looked at the compatibility list and I don’t see my exact tuner pictured, but under dual tuner it shows the usb version, under quad tuner it shows the pci-e version. I have the pci-e dual tuner, the 2250, its not usb but internal, I do see xbox tuner card listed specifically, when I get home I am going to try this one, hopefully it will cause no conflict with the internal dual tuner card. I do believe the single tuner usb xbox card has a little better reception than my internal one, but that could just be the fact that the ant is able to be kept away from the router etc

I too have the 2250, but have not tried it as from reading the supported models, this was not one of them. I just migrated to a new Plex server the other week and didn’t move the card and likely won’t as I can’t use it. May look at other options depending on the future support needs of this card.

seems odd, I would make the assumption that Hauppauge drivers are pretty much the same, of course it has to know the hardware you are using and every model is slightly different, however that is the layer between windows and the card itself, just about any software designed for windows interfaces with a device by the device driver and not directly to the card like some old dos modem, so I would assume the driver instructions from the windows side would be so similar it wouldn’t matter, windows just needs to know how many tuners it has and what other features, maybe we are running into this stupid problem because plex cannot function with any card that has extra features like the 2250’s dual AV input and FM tuner. I still love this tuner, windows 10 and wintv8 work great with it, its the perfect card to digitize my VHS tapes. I guess I’m hoping adding the xbox device will not break wintv8 but just essentially treat it as a 3rd available tuner, and then plex can recognize it.

I find it odd that plex would pick 4 specific models of Hauppauge tuners and not just be able to interface with them all.

this is the way of plex developing this DVR capability, it has been dribs and drabs little enhancements, too many drawbacks compared to WMC as far as DVR is concerned. given its still in beta but it is barely moving along.

the plex cloud service I find to be very unreliable too, it works, but I find it is trying to rescan to much and is very laggy and slow, I have 1GPS speed however its limited by the cloud service like onedrive or gdrive I assume which they have no control over

WMC took YEARS to get right. Please be patient.

Hauppauge drivers are not the same. We want to verify support for devices we support, especially since this is a v1 product.

We’ve had issues with WinTV8 being installed, so try to uninstall it and see if you can see the tuner then.

I just picked up the WinTV-dualHD after seeing that it was a supported device. But like these others I was not able to get a result in the DVR search in Plex. I tried with and without WinTV 8 installed and with or without it running. It works fine with WinTV 8 so definitely not a device issue. Then I checked for updates and noticed the I was running Plex v1.5.something. Checking for updates did not update to 1.7. So after downloading manually and installing - I am now able to set up the DVR. Make sure you have the updated version of Plex Media Server.

You likely didn’t have the ‘Plex Pass’ channel enabled in your settings maybe?

Thats odd, i too have the WinTV Dual HD usb model and works like a charm

@ScoBoX Ah yes! I see my Plex Server is also showing as version 1.5! And it says up to date when I run the check. I’m going to download v1.7 now and see if that works.

Well I’ve updated to v1.7 and managed to get LiveTV and DVR working. My first impressions are…it’s TERRIBLE! I’ve been using the WinTV 8 software which is pretty basic, but works. It records my programs in HD and stores them in a Plex folder which I have Plex auto scan so I can watch them whilst I’m not at home.

Just done a few recordings with Plex DVR and one of them had no sound, the other which was supposed to be HD looked like something from the 90’s and BBC News HD…the scrolling news ticker was all pixels because it was moving.

Think I’ll use WinTV 8 until it’s more refined.

Sorry guys, I’ve made a mistake! It’s actually playing fine via the Windows Plex App and Android. It was distorted via Opera Browser, but if you change the quality to slightly lower, the picture and sound go fine and back in sync. Will record a few more things tonight and see how they are.

I have the server working with my DualHD, and while the guide comes up and I can record, I don’t have an option to “Watch Now” on any programs I select. This is if I go in using the Plex webapp in Windows 10 both on the server itself and from another machine. I don’t see it in the Plex app on my Android phone I’m assuming b/c it’s not available yet. Am I missing something? And I had the same issue with the server version 1.5 vs. 1.7 to get my Dual HD to show up.

@“tsuitt@hotmail.com” LiveTV isn’t available yet on Windows or Android, only the record function. From what I can gather, you can only get LiveTV on iOS or an Android TV Box.

Is it any Android TV box, like a FireTV, or is the “generic” Android TV Box? It’s been really hard to decipher from all the FAQs. I guess the downfall of having an “open” OS. And recording is working great for me. I tested 2 shows yesterday and both recorded right as expected.

If it runs the actual Android TV it will work. If it doesn’t then it won’t work.

No, not the generic TV boxes that run Android. Google/Android have released a TV version of Android called Android TV lol It’s only on certain devices from Sony, I think Nvidia Shield runs it. Those generic boxes just run stock Android and not Android TV OS.

It should be available on normal Android soon though, if it’s on iOS then I don’t see why it wouldn’t appear on Android soon.
