Everything I’ve renamed using this program seems to be synced to Plex correctly so I’m gonna go ahead and stick with the free version lol
TVDB + files = synced to Plex correctly
@Divideby0, the update for rename my tv series 2 says the TVDB has a new API and requires support for SSL. Updates to the user interface, merging of 2 episodes, caching results and there’s now a 64 bit version for macOS.
You can still get the older version so it probably works just fine for most needs
I am using the older app. A lot of the “new” things in 2 seem to be what 1 can already can do. I can select to merge two episodes already, and with the custom naming scheme I set up, it names the two-episode file as “S01E01E02 - Bob’s first episode - Bob’s Second Episode.mkv” or similar. This works in Plex (even if plex’s support for multi-episode files leves much to be desired).
RMTS1 does not support naming multi-file episodes, but does not come up often. Plex can support them (such as “S01E01 - Intro Pt1.mkv” and “S01E01 Intro Pt2.mkv”), so it takes a bit of extra effort. But other than this one show I worked on last night, I haven’t had this come up for well over a year now.
Well I went though and even with episodes listed like
Rocko’s Modern Life Season 02 Episode 10 - Short Story-Eyes Capades.mp4
If I rename it episode 23 without doing the S02E23 method is still places it in the correct position with the right title.
According to TVDB it has 2 season finales in the same season.
Have seen people argue about the order before, and that usually gets shut down fast in there forums.
I do have tiny media manager that can rename the episodes, but its only a few shows that are doing it. So will probably go through manually to change them. And anything with seasonXX episode XX seems to be reading fine, its mostly the order.
If it works, great. I like the condensed SxxExx format, which is instantly readable, saving room for the episode name. But if you spell out the full wording “Season xx Episode xx” and it works, I’m not gonna fight you over it. We are just concerned, just because something works NOW for SOME episodes, does not mean it will work for all episodes and in the future. We recommend you use the officially supported format, but you do you.
Some people who brought up your use of “Season xx Episode xx” might be the cause of your episode mis-ordering, but I think the issue was that it was taking the metadata for each episode from TVDB/TMDB, which did not match your numbering.
From going though the episodes even if I do sXXeXX it doesn’t matter.
Get the same result if I do Season X episode X or vice versa.
I just did firefly and renamed it season X episode X and it went in the right order.
Basically the TVDB is different from the original source.
Such as Firefly looks like its all kinds of odd order, but changing the SeasonX EpisodeX fixed the issue. ( if I did those according to TVDB order)
When I changed them to S1E01 and in TVDB it lists that episode as E02 it doesnt help.
Think I got though all the files.
Thanks for help with getting it figured out.!
