Xbox One New Update - dimming during video play

There seems to be an issue with the "dimming on idle" The app dims and turns completely black even though I am watching something.. How could I change the setting on this? I don't want to keep pressing buttons on my controller every two minutes so the thing were watching doesnt get interrupted.

That's odd.  I wouldn't think the dimming should kick in during video playback... regardless, I can't reproduce the problem myself.

Do you have a kinect plugged in?  I don't know how Plex is implementing the dimming, but I know at the system level the screen will dim depending on whether or not it detects a person in the room - if you have kinect.

Yep, I've noticed it does the same thing for me. It seems to dim after about 60 seconds with multiple videos tested. Very annoying because there doesn't seem to be any settings so therefore no way to disable it.

I havent tested this on my kinectless xbone, but it seems to not dim on my xbone with kinect.. both my xboxs are also running the latest system software (in the dashboard preview program so usually a few weeks b4 general release i think)

Mine is also diming after a few minutes. Very annoying...

Looks like I'll be declining this update...

To those with the issue it would be helpful to know:

  • Do you have kinect?
  • Are you stock dashboard or preview program?

As it's not effecting everyone, it would be helpful in letting folks know which people may be effected after the update.

No kinect, stock dashboard, have the dimming problem.  Is there a way to revert to previous version?  It's unusable until it's fixed.

MC

Kinectless system. Stock dashboard. Dimming is an issue.

Update: A system restart seems to have fixed the dimming issue.

No kinect new dash today dimming bug :frowning:

UPDATE… reboot after install fixes bug so far

Kinect system

Stock dashboard

Dimming issue

UPDATE: Confirmed that doing a hard reboot (hold down power button for 10 seconds) clears the issue. It fixed the problem for me.

Kinect system
Stock dashboard
Dimming issue

There goes my theory that it's only effecting non-kinect users then...

UPDATE2 Video cuts off after 30 mins audio continuesNeeds hard restart if xbox to recover :-(

I'll be watching a movie in a bit.. I'll report back if I'm having the issue;.. I do have Kinect.

Same issue here. No Kinect, stock dash, and Plex dims after a short period of time.

Why doesn't it just use the dimming built into the xbox? Seems silly if they rolled their own if there could have been an api call, it dimmed after awhile before just fine, this pretty much blacks out the screen. I seem to recall that my screen dimmed in plex just fine before, although the screen doesn't go black. I keep thinking the bloody tv got turned off so I hit the power button the remote and turn it off.

The kinect also doesn't seem to wake up from this screen saver.

IMO the system takes too long to dim the screen and the dimming isn’t dark enough, so static UI elements will still get burned into many displays.

I actually just ‘go to TV’ on my Xbox when I’m leaving it idle (I have a Chromecast connected) to try and avoid burn in.

Another annoying thing about the system dimming is with Kinect; where it picks up your movement and turns off the screensaver. It’s a pain because sometimes I turn around to do something else and if Kinect detects me while dimming is on the screen returns to full brightness.

I think making the display go completely black is maybe too much, but it’s good that it dims after 2 mins. I would like it to dim twice the amount and stay at that level, and to have an option to disable it for those that don’t want it.

PHT has a nice option from XBMC which lets you choose the interval and amount of dimming to be applied.

Same issue here, been watching for the past hour or so and have to wiggle the stick every few minutes to stop the dimming.  Kinect System.  Never had any problem before this last update.

Besides that, I've been loving Plex on the Xbox one, been using it since you launched it and haven't ever had an issue with anything until this dimming thing.  Plays everything I throw at it.

I'm not having this issue. I have Kinect, but before trying it out at all I did a hard reboot per madusmacus.  Watched an entire movie no dimming.  I am still having the stuttering issue after x amount of minutes (54 in this case).  Have to back out and restart the movie to fix that.

My screen will dim if I'm not actually watching anything though. And yes, it's completely black, not 'dimmed' as it should be.

No, I don't have a kinect. Maybe that's the problem? seems odd.
