I have a plex server set up consisting of an old HP laptop with an AMD A8 Richland cpu, 8gb of ddr1600, 120gb ssd internal, and usb 3.0 4tb hard drive external. I have the DVR set-up with HD homerun network tuner. Everything is hard wired to a TP-link 8-port gigabit unmanaged switch. Just recently when trying to play my dvr recordings on my Shield TV it’s stopped playing suddenly and given me this error. How can my connection not be fast enough when everything is hardwired? It seems to me that it is related to the latest server update as that’s when the issue started.
I’ve had this message pop up from time to time and it’s always seemed like Plex throws this message up if it encounters ANY kind of delay in accessing your media…even if it’s not necessarily network related.
I am using a 5 year old Lenovo laptop (8GB RAM, Core i5) and can do 1080 over wifi, so unless there is a misconfig in your network, I doubt it is that. You should see if PMS is transcoding the stream. If so, it might be that the CPU can’t keep up with the transcode. I also have a Shield and transcoding is RARE (even 4K content) but it would not hurt to check!
