Hi- I updated to 1.10.0.4523, and this fixed many problems I was having with recording (100% complete recording stuck, some shows only showing a few minutes, etc.); however, I have a new bug that I haven’t seen mentioned and didn’t see myself until I upgraded. I’m using the HD Home Run Connect. If I record two shows on the same network that are an hour long and that air back to back, the second half hour of the second show stutters in playback and is pretty much unwatchable as a result. It hits at exactly the 30 minute mark on the second show. It’s happened three times since I updated. My Plex Server runs on a Synology NAS 1815+.
I’ve seen this on two different stations (one of which I never had a problem recording and always has great reception). Checking the logs in the HD Home Run says it is streaming for two straight hours to my Plex server.
Anyone one else seen this or any suggestions regarding what to try to get around it?
This happened (sort of) to our most recent recording of “Talking Dead”. The picture looked ok but the audio kept skipping around and repeating. This only affected the second half (or so) of last weekends recording.
We are also on the most recent beta release (same as you).
I have been experiencing the same “bug” with the latest version 1.10.1.4561 as well. The first show records just fine (1 hour long). The next show (also 1 hour long on the same network) records just fine for the first 30 minutes, then the last 30 minutes has both video and audio “skipping”!! I have not seen this happen with prior releases (before 1.10). This is a major annoyance when recording back-to-back shows on the same network. Plex really needs to address this issue.
It happen to me on the 30 minute show Young Sheldon. 15 minutes in the video started doing short loops. The audio was ok, but none of the video synced up with it. I’m on Version 1.10.1.4565. YS records right after Big Bang Theory on the same channel.
Arrrgh, me too. Attempted to record Fox cartoons last night. Simpson (30 mins) Bob’s Burgers (60 mins) Family Guy (30 mins). All ran back-to-back on the same station. The last recording is a useless, stuttering pile of goo. Plex 1.10.1.4561, Win 10 PC, internal hard drive, with commercials left in.
I’ll add my “me too” as well. 2nd recording in back-to-back on same channel had issues halfway through. Both recordings were an hour long. My issue sounds like the one @rodgerzeisler described above. Audio was OK but video had short loops that would repeat a couple times before jumping ahead to briefly catch up with the audio and then loop/lag again. Commercial detection was turned OFF for these recordings.

I just reproduced the problem trivially by recording 2 back-to-back 1 hour programs this morning. 2nd half of 2nd show is a complete loopy, stuttering video mess. No commercial extraction attempted, just a vanilla recording from cable channel via HDHomeRun. How is a big bug like this unacknowledged for almost a week? Seems extremely easy to reproduce.
I had back to back half hour shows (CBS) completely goofed, while simultaneous back to back hour long shows (Fox) were fine. I’ve been chasing the issue since commercial skipping was introduced. At it’s worst, shows are completely unwatchable. At best, it presents as audio visual “blips” every so often on an otherwise watchable recording.
It’s like it goes out of sync and struggles to get back into sync, and never can match the two back up again.
Pure speculation here, but I would imagine Plex DVR is trying to avoid using a 2nd tuner for back-to-back same channel shows and is temporarily storing a single video stream twice, while first show ends and 2nd show begins. And something about this algorithm leads to wacky out of sync stuttering later in the 2nd show.
Also seeing this on recent recordings of one hour shows - about half way through it starts to loop audio. My PMS is on MacOS with data on a NAS. I’ve seen it happen on both the web client and an AppleTV 4. I did find if I forced a low bit rate transcode it the audio on the second half was better but still had a lot of artifacts in it. Half hour shows and previous recordings don’t seem to suffer from this.
Happened to Talking Dead again this week. This was a back to back recording (Walking Dead > Talking Dead) on the same channel. Half way through, the audio stutters horribly.
Actually, Walking Dead ended up being incomplete (recording inexplicably cut off early) as well. Glad we chose to watch it live last night.
And again! Last night I recorded 4 Will&Grace back-to-back on the same channel. That’s 2 hours of material. And the last show (last half hour) is A/V stuttering junk. But interesting, the last show is also about twice as large as the first 3. I’m guessing the A/V stream is being written twice to the file, everything duplicated. Help us Plex ninjas! Please (1) confirm you see the bug (2) tell us what version of Plex Media server predates this bug so we can work around it for now.

In my experience, once your recording starts looping and such, it’s squarely wonked, and there’s no recovering that instance.
Others, where audio starts to float out of sync can be remedied by switching up clients. Either way, this is an issue, and it needs to be looked at.
