Plex DVR Glitches During Playback After Commercial Skip Update

Just a quick note, I am experiencing what I would call annoying glitches during playback of a DVRd show that uses the new commercial skip feature. It seems that a few frames plus associated audio get intermittently misplaced into the recording resulting in sound and split second visual of frames from some other part of the recording.

From what I can gather these are the symptoms:
Occurs after the first commercial break or later
Intermittent intervals, but at its worst, it happens rhythmically every two seconds
I’ve only noticed it on Fox recordings so far, but I record a LOT of shows from there
The full recording is present and otherwise plays as expected with no other telltale errors

Not sure this is something I can solve for. Just thought someone should know. Not sure logs would be useful in this case either since it seems like it could be an encoder issue.

I’m also experiencing this! The commercial skip worked great but made at least one show glitchy in this same annoying way.

I wouldn’t say it makes the show unwatchable… just annoying, especially when it ramps up and does it fairly often.

Same issue here… Audio is totally off sync :frowning:

Further investigation yields that this is definitely happening with most FOX recordings. I have not experienced it on any other channels recordings to date. Subnetworks of FOX 2.1, such as 2.2, 2.3 and so on, seem to record fine so far.

Played through Plex Media Player, they are almost unwatchable. Audio and video repeats for a second every few seconds. Watching on Plex Web or Roku minimizes the errors to blips in A/V output… almost as if those clients are better able to compensate for the errors.

Have had it happen on reruns of Big Bang Theory on NYC local CW Chanel 9.1

Happened on CW for me but don’t think it is related to the commercial skip bc I don’t use it. I presummed transcoder changes don’t like something in the stream bc it happens every 2 seconds

I get the stutter glitch if a show plays two episodes back to back. The second one is completely unwatchable

I experienced the same issue on 2 shows one on CW and other on AMC. 1/2 way through the audio and video is glitched and cannot be watched. However all the other recordings worked perfectly. We need to have an option to keep the original recording while this is in beta so if it glitches we still have a clean copy. For now I decided to turn it off.

Have you tried using a different client? Some of my recordings that superglitch are watchable using a different client to watch them. The Roku seems to tackle them pretty well.

Tried Windows 10 app, Roku and VLC its the same. The recording itself seems to have glitched when it processed the commercial skip.

The Big Bang Theory tonight was pretty unwatchable. I bounced around with a few clients right after it finished processing… which took an abnormally long time this time.

Logs attached.

Young Sheldon (also CBS) which followed was a little better… but not much. Gotham (FOX) was simultaneously recording as both of these shows, and appears to have fared better.

The Orville (FOX) was nearly flawless in execution compared to last week, so I no longer believe this is tied to network.

Question to the universe: Will two shows that begin and end at the same time try to comskip process simultaneously, or one after another? Could that be related?

The major issue this time happened with back to back half hour shows (garbled) that recorded next to a one hour show (nearly perfect), if that helps in analysis.

To illustrate:

I have the same problems with some recordings. Its been going on for about two weeks. Not using comskip feature. As examples, The Orville was good half way through recording, then the odd video “bounce” and audio out of sync. Same issue with Blue Bloods. Other recordings on same channels were ok. My tuners are two HDHomeRun Connects.

I had this happen on one episode of The Voice. 2nd half of the show was unwatchable.

I am having this same issue, I can attach logs if needed.

Next time this happens, I can give a Ninja or Employee access to my recorded materials so they can see if that would help?

Just wanted to add I’m seeing this as well, mainly on the second half of hour long shows. Not using the comskip stuff at this time either.
