Hi all,
My apologies if this has already been requested in the new PlexPass forums - I had a quick scan and couldn’t see anything similar.
I’m watching ‘Breaking Bad’ at the moment and I’m having to practically shut my eyes when scrolling down onto a new episode so that I don’t see any ‘spoilers’. It would be really great if the plot and even the frame capture could be hidden for unwatched shows.
Many thanks,
JC
Agreed. This is implemented in the latest community AppleTV client, and when I saw the option it struck me as one of those obvious-but-not-obvious features. I'd love to see it in the official clients!
I would love to see this feature implemented across all clients. Nobody likes spoilers, and it would be especially useful to hide the screen capture image for videos such as live sports (where the image can show the score halfway through the game).
Seems interesting, but if implemented I would like it to be selectable on series level.
Was especially reminded of this while watching the origional Twilight Zone on my iPad: the ‘plot’ basically gives away the entire thing…
XBMC already supports this, it should be just a mater of exposing the functionality to the clients (Maybe through the API, so that the plot is not retrieved from the server when the client requests it hidden?)
I would absolutely love this feature.
4 years on and still no option?
I wonder why people are seeing plots they do unless they explicitly want to. I never see a plot unless I try.
In all normal situations I simply press “Play” when the movie/show/episode I want is first shown on the screen and selected and it plays and I never see any synopsis. This is true on my Rokus, Fire TV Raspberry Pi (using PMP) and Web UI. The only place I see plots when browsing is in OpenPHT (and probably PHT itself) and those are not supported by Plex and I “think” there are skins available that suppress the plots but I almost never use those so I do not know for sure.
The pop-out with the plot seems to be in the “Plex classic” on the Roku as well but that too is no longer supported by Plex. However, for those that prefer the older interface on the Roku RARflix is still available and its pop-out can be suppressed.
So, for those that are seeing unwanted plot summaries there are easy ways to avoid them and alternative players that also mostly avoid them.
However I do agree that the preview pane that is displayed should be allowed to be suppressed or chosen from the very first of the video so that for sporting events the score, which broadcasters seem to think are always needed on the screen will not be shown. I never have really liked having that preview anyway as it is usually unrecognizable as part of the show it was taken from.
But no one should expect any customization like this. Providing “choice” is the antithesis of what Plex’s vision is. After all Plex knows best and we should view our media only the way Plex wants. Plex’s vision is the only view that counts.
Remember that Plex clearly knows what is best for us. Why would anyone want to use Plex in a personal manner? Plex is, after all “All knowing” and “All powerful” and should never be disobeyed or even circumvented.
I support this feature, it would be nice having a feature you can turn on that says for all un-watched epsidoes hide plot summary
It exists in the OPHT client.
I know this is an old one but still throwing my vote in for it.
This should be selectable at the series level and it should also include the option to hide the episode thumbnail for unwatched episodes.
This is needed especially for reality tv / competition shows where a thumbnail can remove enjoyment from a series, which Plex should be all about enjoying our media, If you are catching up on unwatched episodes and see a cast member in a thumbnail for an upcoming episode it removes most of the tension and doubt that make competition shows enjoyable. You then most likely know they aren’t at risk in the earlier episodes you are catching up on.
Thanks for your consideration!
Definitely a +1 on this.
I feel like I’m going crazy, but I’ve been running a new installation for a few weeks now and kept thinking “yeah, I need to switch off the preview synopsis”.
It always used to say “synopsis hidden” until I’d watched the episode on my old installation.
I’ve just tried to find that setting, only for it to appear as though it doesn’t exist, and never has done.
Either way, even if I am crazy and there was some kind of weird glitch on my old installation it should be implemented.
I’m now running a Plex server on my desktop PC and watching on my smart TV, and there is no way that I can see to play the episode I want without going to the screen which shows the synopsis and giving spoilers away. I also occasionally watch on my laptop or on my desktop.
Server-side code to provide this option purely on a watched/unwatched basis (which is all I want!) would solve the problem across all devices at once for those of us that want it, and be a lot easier I suspect than updating every version of the various apps across all the TVs etc.
Whether I had it before by accident or not, I want that function back!
I switched from Plex Media Theatre today (it stopped working). It had this functionality. Would be lovely to have it in Plex Media Player for sure!
Infuse recently added this capability and I LOVE it. This should be a no brain’r to implement. If it has been watched, show the plot, if not - don’t display it.
I think the plex client interface is slick and superior to Infuse’s, however I still keep going back to infuse, so I don’t have plots spoiled when I am binging a show.
I’ve been running into this on the Play Next screen when auto play is disabled. Not a fan of seeing the plot for the next episode right in the middle of the screen as soon as playback stops.
Why isn’t this a configurable setting on both the Windows PMP app as well as the web player?
Hi as someone who has used Infuse for a time as well as the Plex app on Apple TV, they have a blur unwatched episodes as an optional feature… this would be super helpful as I have way too many times had the next episode spoiled due to either the thumbnail or the start of the episode description. Would love to see this added in the Plex app
+1 on this one.
I’ve had to set up a job to run a Python script to hide the summary from unwatched episodes, but sadly it doesn’t hide the thumbnail.
I really wish this was a built-in feature of Plex.
I was wondering about a feature to “blur thumbnails” of an unwatched episode. As an example;
If I want to go to Plex and choose an episode manually from a certain TV-show/Anime, the thumbnail would give me a picture from a random scene in the show, it might be a spoiler. Maybe someone died or they reunite with a family member; it shows a spoiler that ruins the excitement of the episode before watching it.
When the episode is watched, the thumbnail would be un-blurred.
As an optional feature I like the idea.
