4K Decoding - what upgrade do I need?

Connect the tv to HDMI OUT on the receiver.

You have to configure the receiver. See pages 44-45 of receiver manual, Configure HDMI section.

I got the TV connected to the AVR via HDMI… and the remote on the AVR is faulty. You can only configure the AVR using the remote, so I’ve taken that as a sign to replace it.

The question is, what do I replace it with? A cheap 5.1 AVR until I buy a new house (hopefully early this year), or 7.1.2 for future-proofing. I’ll give it some thought and check out prices.

I hate it when that happens.

Check eBay, Amazon, Google, etc for used remotes. Not as much fun as buying a new receiver, but might get you by until you’re in the new home.

I replaced my faulty AVR today with an entry level Yamaha 5.1, and added an Nvidia Shield. So far, very happy with the results. The Shield is a very well executed piece of kit.

Thanks again for all your advice!
