Can Plex play WMV?

Seems like a lot get transcoded:

I can’t see it not supporting 5.1 AC-3

That’s just the audio. The video is passed-through unchanged. Which is good for both quality and cpu load.

Yeah but why? Another questionably encoded file? If not NVidia needs a better page with exact specs it supports. The webpage they provide with high level info doesn’t help. I know even for supported formats a lot of devices have limits to bitrates and other things they support with that container or encode type.

Do you have the Shield connected to a receiver that can handle 5.1 AC3? If not, this is expected.

I assume so. It’s a 7.2 Denon Receiver

Even if it doesn’t don’t think the Shield knows that specifically it’s just connected thru an HDMI cable. Then from there the Denon outputs to the video signal to the TV and audio to the speakers.

The Plex app on the Shield communicates with what it is connected to so it knows what is supported or not. Have you enabled the passthrough option in the app and in the Shield’s main audio settings?

I just did two things and will see how it works. Someone mentioned both of these:

  1. I switched Passthru to HDMI
  2. I disabled H264 maximum level

Some YouTube video I watched an hour ago mentioned these earlier. Didn’t fully get the second one but supposedly it can effect audio.
