Can't remove unavailable media.

I'm having the same issue. 0.9.11.17 on FreeBSD.

Figured I would post in here for anyone having this issue. I had the same exact issue with one of my shows specifically. The fix for me was that I went in, unmatched the specific show I was having an issue with, refreshed just that individual show, then every time I did a FULL library refresh, it would delete the last episode from that series. So basically I just had to do a full library refresh for as many episodes as were in that series. After LOTS of full library refreshes later, it eventually reached to only 1 episode remaining, and on the next full refresh, the entire series was finally deleted from my library.

Did anyone try to press the “Unavailable” button in Plex/Web? This should open a new window where you can press “Delete”. Worked for me when I didn’t get rid of “ghost”-material!

I’m having the same issue. I deleted an item from my source folder, and now it won’t go away in Plex. Tried everything I found on this forum, still no luck. It shows the “Unavailable” information bubble, and when I click it, it gives me the option to delete. When I click delete it says “There was a problem deleting this item”. There is some disconnect happening here, it’s obvious the file that it is referencing in the path it is displaying when you click for more info isn’t there anymore.

I can see the appeal for detachable hard drives to show a file as “Unavailable” when they are disconnected (although I don’t do it this way), but there needs to be a force delete from Plex option.

It is probably worth noting that the Library Type is Home Videos for the library that is having issues. I use this source when I won’t want to jump through the hoops of having something scan correctly in order to watch it through Plex.

Fixed for me. This was media that was stored on an external drive. I had set the drive up to be scanned in the settings in my movies folder. My fix was to go to the Movies section, then click the gear top right (Chrome/Windows) and then Edit Library.

Under Add Folders I removed the external drive and then ran Empty Trash and it cleared out all of the unavailable media.

Hey guys, was having the same issue and what I did to resolve it was go to Settings > Server > Library > Show Advanced > Check “Allow Media Deletion” > Save Changes

Go back to you library and delete the item that is in limbo. I know that is a crude method, but it works without a full scan or anything like that.

Thanks! That’s the only thing that worked for me. The process detailed in this other thread didn’t work for me (by itself).

Could it be related to the type of storage? If the HDD is hot removable or say stored on a USB then is would make sense for PMS not to remove the file from the library and show the “unavailable” flag.

This is definitely still an issue. I cleaned out some old TV shows from my NAS, the library shows that they are unavailable, but emptying the trash doesn’t do anything.

Same issue here, I have not removed the media but I moved it to a new folder.
Now I have duplicate entries in my library one in the new section and then duplicates in the old section all unavailable.

I’m having this issue now as well and it is driving me insane. Removed the library and re-added it and everything is fine until I delete something from the filesystem and it stays as “Unavailable”. Tried update, refresh, empty trash…nothing works unless I enable media deletion and do it manually.

I found this other thread forums.plex.tv/discussion/188838/deleted-media-still-showing-up-and-unable-to-delete-entry-in-pms which was the cause of my problem. Hope this helps someone else!

I had the same problem, I had to enable media deletion and then selected “delete” for the unavailable show and it worked !

+1 for sadeqalbana’s solution. Could NOT get rid of one “UNAVAILABLE” movie, which was throwing a monkey wrench into my library because the errant file only existed BECAUSE I’d accidentally copied a movie into an incorrect folder. This was causing trouble because I couldn’t get things to re-sync after I moved the file into the correct folder. I thought removing the file from the server entirely would allow the ‘UNAVAILABLE’ file to go away with emptying trash/rescanning/etc. Never did.

So for anyone who finds this in desperation (like I did)…SETTINGS | SERVER | LIBRARY | ALLOW MEDIA DELETION | SAVE. Then browse to the file, click on UNAVAILABLE, delete that sucker, then revert the “ALLOW MEDIA DELETION” setting if you wish…and get on with life!!

NOTE: This deletes the metadata AND the actual file, if it exists…so back it up if that’s a problem.

The database shouldn’t be this unwieldy and untouchable, PLEX devs!! That directory structure is a certified nightmare and house-of-cards, just waiting to implode.
