Chinese movie titlesort // mod: Pinyin sort order

Hello, I’m a user from China. Many of my movies are Chinese names. For users who use English movie names, the order of the movies is in the order of ABC… but for Chinese movies, the names are messy and there is no order. It’s very inconvenient for me to find movies quickly. In fact, Chinese characters can be replaced by an English alphabet, which we call Pinyin. Usually Chinese software arranges movie names in pinyin order. Whether it can be in plex

need 拼pin音yin order

I also need Pinyin sorting. Why hasn’t such a simple function been implemented for two years?

I believe that more than 90% of Chinese users are more accustomed to Pinyin sorting

The current Chinese content is sorted by the Unicode of the characters, this sorting is basically meaningless for Chinese users, because Chinese readers will never use this sorting method, most people don’t even know what it is.

There are many ways to sort Chinese, take Chinese sorting order of selection list on Mac as an example, they provide six ways.

  1. Chinese (Pinyin sort order): Unicode sort order based on Pinyin.

  2. Chinese (order of strokes of radicals): the standard Kangxi arrangement order, which is sorted according to radicals, and then sorted according to the number of strokes.

  3. Chinese (Simplified Chinese Collation Order - GB2312): Simplified Chinese collation order based on the GB2312 character set.

  4. Chinese (Stroke Sort Order): Unicode sort order based on strokes.

  5. Chinese (Traditional Chinese Collation Order - Big5): Traditional Chinese collation order based on the Big5 character set.

  6. Chinese (Zhuyin Sort Order): Sort order of Traditional Chinese based on Zhuyin (bopomofo) symbols.

For Simplified Chinese users, the best and most commonly used way is Pinyin sort order, the first way above.

Pinyin is often used to teach Mandarin, normally written in Chinese form, to learners already familiar with the Latin alphabet. The system includes four diacritics denoting tones, but pinyin without tone marks is used to spell Chinese names and words in languages written in the Latin script, and is also used in certain computer input methods to enter Chinese characters.

We can use pinyin to represent Chinese characters, For example, 汉(hàn), 语(yǔ), 拼(pīn), 音(yīn), the characters can be sorted using the alphabetical order of their initials, this is a very practical way to sort Chinese characters, you should use this method to sort for Simplified Chinese, maybe even Traditional Chinese.

I think Traditional Chinese users might be more inclined to choose the Zhuyin sort, or order of strokes of radicals, not sure.

But you should definitely set the default for Chinese to be sorted by Pinyin, We really need Pinyin sorting, Unicode sorting makes no sense to us.
