If requested, I can set this up on any of the NAS’s I have which can’t transcode at all and achieve the same results.

So you’re agreeing with me now? I know the info is there, too.

My point is, to suggest that Shield-level hardware is somehow necessary to get an advanced mediainfo OSD display in the Plex app is laughable.

Relevance? Plex makes neither device, so they don’t have a business reason to hold back the feature from the Fire Stick app.

I will ask the shield team and report back.
I am not here to be argumentative.

I stated up front that I only have the Shield Pro.
I am both a Computer Engineer and Electrical Engineer. There are finite limits to what fit in packages and device manufactures set those limits.

Maybe the reason it’s not in the device is because Amazon didn’t provide an API for it? – I have no idea. I’m not on the app development team.

Again , I replied solely to contribute my knowledge of the Shield Pro 2019.

Thank you and have a pleasant evening.

I received a reply from the team.

Yes, all Android devices, including the Amazon devices have the same OSDs and screens

19:41
If they want to assert they don’t have it, I’d be asking for evidence, including the app version, a screenshot of settings showing the new player enabled, and a screenshot of the OSD, along with logs

I stand corrected.

Did not mean to open such a can of worms…

As for the response from the team, just to clarify, I am not talking about the OSD (the Playback controls) but the details of the media stream as @nx6 points out above) that used to be in the old player, but are not available in the new player without navigating to a menu to find it.

I do have it enabled in the settings.

I do not get the overlay that shows the stream details as in ChuckPa’s post above (the Playback Info, Video and Audio Panels at the top of the second screenshot) on the Plex App on either my (old) Shield or my android TV

And if the information is the XML as pointed out above, not sure why this cannot be displayed when bringing up the OSD if it can be displayed in a specific menu.

@blim5001

If you’d please supply the screenshots (or pics) and logs as suggested by the app development team, I will forward to them .

Well here goes… although similar have pretty much already been posted in this thread.

My examples are from the plex app (v 8.5.1.19778 (2c9485c3) on the older shield. But it does the same on the same version of the app on my android TV

I have Display Info set to on in my settings:

If I play a video with the old player and bring up the OSD I get this:

So I get to see (from a single button press) the information in the top left of the picture.

If I then enable the New player., and to confirm here is my settings with the new player enabled:

then I get nothing in the top left of the screen:

Where as per Chucks picture there is a new information overlay shown with even more details (at least if you have a new shield)

(Pic added again just for ref so it’s all in a single post).

and these are the logfiles from the app on my shield:

Logs removed, as not needed

@blim5001

Thank you! I’m forwarding to the team now

@blim5001 and everyone waiting with baited breath

I messed up.
I showed you something by accident which I should not have.

I showed you upcoming development work.

It will arrive for everyone at some point.

I’m REALLY sorry for causing such a stink.

ha ha, ah well, at least we now know it should be coming back… at some point.

Thanks

I asked for an ETA and got a :man_shrugging: lol
