Choppy playback when Hardware Acceleration is enabled

Server Version#: 4.137.1
Player Version#:1.66.1.215-6343cfaf

I’m having problems with choppy playback of 4k x265 direct playing from my server. Network is 2.5Gbit and I’ve tried a variety of hardware:

i7700k with a NVidia 3060 and with a AMD RX 6400 low profile.

I’ve also tried with a 12600 with intel 770 graphics.

Each of these produce choppy playback when I enable hardware acceleration, but work fine when it’s off. It used to work a month or so ago on a previous version of HTPC.

The only PC I can get it working on is a 12700k with a RTX 3080Ti. Does it really need all the power of a 3080Ti to work?

Thanks.

The playback engine hasn’t changed in that time. Most likely your issues are another change such as a driver upgrade or a settings change. You may want to start with looking at the machine with the 3080 and seeing what is different there to the machine with the 3060. Both GPUs are more than powerful enough for this playback even with the highest postproc settings enabled which should be evident by looking at the OS’s assessment of GPU usage during playback.

May want to check: Fix for Plex HTPC stuttering / laggy playback issue on certain 4K content, please upstream

Thanks dancb2, swapping out the mpv-2.dll for the one you suggested works perfectly!

I wish the employees of Plex knew about this - it’s a much better solution than your drivers are faulty.

No problem!

There’s a few other major open bugs that require workarounds which you can find here; Script to automatically check/update both plex htpc and mitzsch's mpv with TrueHD support - #2 by dancb2 & here: Plex HTPC losing audio device settings - #12 by ae_zero
