I’ve searched the forums for this, but had no luck finding my request.
Some movies that I add to my Plex movie database don’t come with extras or trailers. I’m not concerned with extras, but I think it would be great if somewhere in the entry’s properties I could define a YouTube link to a trailer for that specific entry. For example, I can upload my own JPG for a poster or background, or define a URL for the same. This functionality would be fantastic to have for trailers as well.
This same functionality could be implemented for a TV series as well.
Ok got it. Not a bad idea but dont think its possible. How about downloading a youtube trailer in to an MP4 (plenty of ways to do this) and putting it along side the movie file with a “-trailer” suffix?

That’s currently possible for a Movie library. I can create a folder for a movie, and insert various extras and trailers. That functionality currently does not exist for TV libraries, which is a shame.
Still, my original idea of having a field in the properties section for a YouTube URL trailer would be really useful.

IMHO P=lex does not downloading the trailer a/o extras but saves a link somewhere and if you choose a trailer in the library i watch it online. so i do not think that it isnt possible to put the url into a separate filed. one benefit would be that you do not have extra files in your library. and you could easy replace trailers that plex found.
Old thread, but still would be a great improvement. Sometimes trailers are missing, but more often I want to use a different trailer. The trailer plex finds automatically may be a teaser, TV Spot, clean version, low resolution, from another country, trailer # (one of many available) etc.
Just like I can substitute posters and backgrounds, I would like to be able to choose a URL for an alternate trailer easily by just copying the link into the edit window instead of downloading, copying, naming, etc every change I want over time.
I like/endorse this idea as well. At least give us an easy/quick listing of YouTube videos predicated on metadata and let us choose a trailer as default. Hell, if it was crowd shared (plexpass) there shouldn’t be any movies without trailers. Also, maybe an option to RESCAN videos to find trailers (just for videos that don’t have them).
