Disappointed

The Xbox 360 and Xbox One have Plex Support. So does the AppleTV 4. I normally use the AppleTV4 or a ROKU3 and they both work great. I’ve tried PLEX on a Original Amazon Fire Stick and it wasn’t the best. It had issues with some files that play just fine on the other devices. Even my Tivo Roamio supports PLEX. Using DLNA is just so lame. The Interface is so plain. You create a hole to bypass user Log-In using a PLEX client which I find very helpful. Like with Netflix, people logging into their own accounts so that you can better keep track of what you watch.

There are just so many streaming devices out there and it’s almost mandatory these days to have something. I think a ROKU is about the best you can get. In that it pretty much supports every service. I like my AppleTV4 and it has really nice support, especially if you’re a iOS user, but not mandatory, but they’re not cheap. Another option is getting USED ROKU. People upgrade and may sell their older one. In general there’s nothing wrong with it and should work just fine for a Plex streaming device besides other services. A used ROKU3 would be a great device to get and I see them on ebay now. You can stream Movies for FREE from Crackle (With Commercials) but it is free. use Netflix, or Amazon services, etc.

The ROKU 3 uses both IR and RF I believe. It at least works when it’s hidden, so no line of site needed, and it works with IR as I use my Harmony remote with it along with mini IR blasters. The CPU is more then speedy enough and you can buy them used. The remote is a motion remote and so you can play some ROKU games with it also. I also like it because it has a Ethernet port and wired is always better with wifi if at all possible. I turned of DLNA on it and haven’t looked back.

My NAS I have all my files on can do DLNA, and if I wanted could access them on my Game console or on my Apple TV using a App like VLC which is on everything including TVOS. There’s also Infuse 4 which is pretty good. You can get one of these streaming boxes for around $50 New/Used depending on which one you want.
