Feature Request: Importing IPTC Tags

Any new developments for tag importing? I have photos from 2000 that I want to finally organize and I want to do it right. I read up on IPTC and XMP metadata tagging, which both seem to be the right way to do the job (and do it once for portability’s sake).

I would love to have this feature implemented!!! :star_struck:

I would like to +1 this request and to have an update on this well. The explanation from @gcoupe is well done. When trying to organize pictures, it makes no sense to not follow the central standards of the technological community, just to have to duplicate metadata for Plex. Manual tagging through Plex is not as important to me as having Plex use existing metadata to organize collections by location, date, tags, people, etc.

I haven’t followed this for a while but it appears that @keithah is no longer an employee so Plex ever implementing something like this seems even more unlikely.

Why am I not surprised. Now I see that Plex are turning their backs on those of us who use HTPCs in our home cinema setups. Time to look for alternatives for Plex.

While it hasn’t seemed to help in years, I will simply say again that I was once very happy with Plex. I even became a Plex Pass user and loved the feature sets. That is until I discovered the severe limitations with Photo tagging. Why should I type in tags I’ve already created? The autotagging feature is nice, but mainly as a supplement to the work I’ve already done. I check in once and a while to see if any changes have been made so I can renew my Plex Pass and discontinue using other programs. To date no improvements and very little response from Plex is beyond discouraging. Plex was great in most every other way, but perhaps it is time to give up on Plex permanently. It seems so simple to allow the import of already created tagging offered by so many other programs. Why not on Plex? After this many years, I may finally delete my account permanently.
