I would love the ability to have either a message board or messaging ability to let my friends who share my server know what new movies I added that may be of interest, provide recommendations, or let them know about future server status, etc. Even if I could generate an email blast from the server…

If you are looking for this now, you can use plexEmail. I agree though that a nice feature would be to have ability to send maintenance messages or polls to users.
